The Department of Sports Medicine invites applicants for a Full-time, 9-month Tenure-Track Faculty of Sports Medicine/Athletic Trainer position. Faculty rank will be determined based on the successful candidate's experience, expertise, and training. The position begins in August 2024.
West Chester University (WCU), a member of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education, is a public, comprehensive institution committed to offering high-quality undergraduate education, selected post-baccalaureate and graduate programs, and a variety of educational and cultural resources for its students, alumni, and citizens of southeastern Pennsylvania. The University offers more than 100 graduate and undergraduate programs in the sciences and mathematics, business and public management, arts and humanities, health sciences, education and social work, music, and interdisciplinary studies. The mission of the Department of Sports Medicine, part of the College of Health Sciences, is to prepare students for careers in the athletic training and physician assistant fields. One of the first five NATA approved programs, WCU has offered athletic training education programming since 1970. The Sports Medicine Department consists of faculty members who serve as instructors in the classroom and/or in the athletic training setting.
The faculty member will primarily serve as an athletic trainer. This involves serving as a preceptor and providing athletic training services for WCU intercollegiate athletics. The ideal candidate will use innovative clinical skills and demonstrate strong attention to the needs of the department's students. Their experience, substantive specialization, and training will serve to strengthen the department's mission and vision. The faculty will collaborate with other departmental and college faculty & staff to ensure student success.
Responsibilities include:
Provide clinical athletic training services within the Sports Medicine program. Workload will be assigned based on experience and areas of specialization depending on department needs.
Coordinating utilization of AT facilities including the scheduling of individuals to receive care
Serve as primary athletic trainer with WCU intercollegiate student-athletes
Provide excellent patient-centered and evidence-based athletic training care
Serve as preceptor for athletic training students in WCU's CAATE-accredited Master of Science in Athletic Training Program
May travel with selected sports
Mentor students
Engage in scholarly activities such as research, presentations, and publications
Serve the University and the community through participation in various committees
Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree in Athletic Training or a closely related field
At least 3 years of full-time clinical athletic training work experience
BOC certification
Pennsylvania athletic training license or eligible for PA license
Preferred Qualifications
Post graduate degree in athletic training or a related field; and/or
Athletic training experience with basketball or collision sports; and/or
Clinical athletic training experience at the collegiate level; and/or
Experience as a preceptor for athletic training students from an accredited AT program; and/or
Professional service with athletic training organizations at the state, district, or national level; and/or
Record of scholarly activity
