We believe that in-person operations are the best way to serve our clients, both directly and through essential operational support.
This position requires in-person attendance with a team at 1 Brooklyn clinic location with some travel in support of the
CCBHC Project.
- Crisis mental health services including 24-hour mobile crisis teams, emergency crisis intervention, and crisis stabilization; Screening, assessment, and diagnosis including risk assessment; Patient-Centered treatment planning or similar processes, including risk assessment and crisis planning; Outpatient mental health and substance use services; Outpatient clinic primary care screening and monitoring of key health indicators and health risk; Targeted case management; Psychiatric rehabilitation services; Peer support, counselor services, and family support services; and, Intensive community-based mental health care for members of the armed forces & veterans.
SUMMARY:
The Medical Assistant (MA) works with a team of professional social workers, clinicians, case managers and others to ensure integrated care for adults experiencing a serious mental illness and/or substance abuse disorder, and a chronic health condition.
As a member of the client care team, the MA will establish therapeutic relationships in order to facilitate medical procedures and tests, maintain patient records, explain common medical procedures and assist with basic examinations.
The MA will share these clinical status and results with the
CCBHC treatment team to help establish treatment goals and provide educational intervention.
To be effective, the MA will have the demonstrated ability to balance independent clinical decision making with appropriate consultation from providers and work with an multi-disciplinary team to engage, establish and achieve appropriate treatment goals.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Perform medical procedures and tests under the direct supervision of the medical director or
CCBHC medical staff for patients with mental, emotional, and physical challenges in line with
CCBHC activities and guidelines. - Measure and record vitals, including but not limited to, blood pressure, pulse, temperature, weight and height.
- Interview clients at intake and annually regarding health conditions, health status and medical followups.
- Assist in identifying clients requiring specific health tracks for treatment improvement.
- Instruct patients on medication administration, diet, exercise, and other physiciandirected orders.
- Keep accurate patient records and ensure that all related reports, information, and lab results are organized and filed with patient records.
- Keep exam rooms stocked with adequate medical supplies and instruments.
- Prepare examination rooms between patients.
- Sterilize medical instruments after each patient
- Answer calls from patients, physicians, and pharmacies and take appropriate action.
- Call-In prescriptions and prescription refills daily as directed.
- Maintain accurate logs of office supplies and equipment.
- Maintains client confidence and protects hospital operations by keeping information confidential.
- Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Protects patients and employees by adhering to infectioncontrol policies and protocols.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
- Complies with federal, state, and local legal and certification requirements by studying existing and new legislation, anticipating future legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, and advising management on needed actions.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
- Responsibility to ensure and document partnership/collaboration with community partnerships and collaborations to enhance service delivery and access.
- Perform other workrelated duties as assigned.
- Available to weekend hours or evening hours as required.
- Work collaboratively with the
CCBHC Interdisciplinary Team as well as external agencies and community stakeholders. - Attend all required management and staff meeting and complete all
CCBHC and organizational trainings.
EXPERIENCE:
- At least 3 years with adults with mental health and/or substance abuse needs.
- At least 3 years working with a multidisciplinary team.
- Knowledge of the healthcare field, the medical specialty of the office or center in which they work, and medical terminology.
- Enthusiasm and selfmotivation regarding identifying client needs and obtaining related resources.
