CARES of NY, Inc. (CARES) collaborates with and supports our communities towards the creation of systems that end and prevent homelessness. We envision that all people have access to safe, affordable housing and the social supports to remain housed. CARES offices are in Albany, NY, however our customers and partner agencies are located throughout 37 counties in NYS. That is approximately 65% of the State. We have been growing since 1990, with most of our new hires made recently.


SUMMARY
The Resident Assistant II position will work in collaboration with the housing case manager to:

provide housing that is safe and affordable, facilitate growth and recovery, and assist in the empowerment of individuals living with a variety of challenges and victories.

The Resident Assistant II will collaborate with the housing Case Manager and Resident Assistant I to support tenants in developing basic cleaning skills and provide instruction on household duties to maintain the upkeep of their personal and shared spaces.

The Resident Assistant II will work with each client independently to assess their individual needs and work towards personal goals and improved daily living skills.


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with the tenants to allow them to provide input for changes or suggestions to make the program work better.
  • Provide orientation to the house for new residents and getting them acclimated to the house and program.
  • Helps tenants develop a budget and understand their finances.
  • Helps tenants develop resumes or prep for employment opportunities.
  • Provide conflict management in collaboration with the case manager for tenants.
  • Help tenants with any technological challenges.
  • Keep inventory of the food pantry and paper goods and reorder/restock as needed monthly.
  • Teaching of daily living skills including as needed such as
:

cooking, laundry, cleaning of shared common spaces such as kitchen, bathrooms.

  • Completing minor maintenance requests including cleaning, and snow removal.
  • Ensuring clients keep their personal rooms tidy and sanitary.
  • Establish a house chore list to keep all tenants involved with the responsibility of the houses.
  • Once a month enter a Progress Note into HMIS on any skills worked on throughout the last month.

Requirements:


EXPERIENCE
Qualified applicants will possess experience working with diverse populations and individuals who are:

living in poverty, have a history of homelessness, are experiencing mental health challenges and/or substance use or addiction, have prior incarcerations, and/or physical, mental, or developmental disabilities.


EDUCATION
High school diploma/GED preferred but will consider experience in replacement of education.
