    Description

    Since 1976, St. Joseph Center has been meeting the needs of low-income and homeless individuals and families in Venice, Santa Monica, Mar Vista, and surrounding communities. The Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit community organization that assists people without regard for religious affiliation or lack thereof through comprehensive case management and integrated social service programs. The Center enjoys broad-based community support as well as a sponsored relationship with its founders, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet. St. Joseph Center serves approximately 6,000 individuals annually.

    Brief Description of Principal Activities

    Multifaceted intervention, prevention, and education services are carried out at four sites on the Westside of Los Angeles. St. Joseph Center's integrated programs provide clients with concentrated and coordinated access to services according to the nature of their needs.

    Job Summary

    The Division Director serves as a team leader providing supervision and guidance to multiple program managers, ensuring the delivery of quality care while adhering to the mission of St. Joseph Center.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

    The Division Director's key areas of responsibility include:

    Key Areas of Responsibility:

    • Ensure that those who seek services in SJC programs are connected and staff provide linkage to appropriate resources and programs, assisting clients in becoming housed.
    • Embrace and implement a "No wrong door" approach to services; recognizing that those we serve are high-need, barriers must be low. Access to services must be easy and clients should flow smoothly into the continuum of care.
    • Foster staff in taking a strength-based, client-led approach in their efforts to enhance successful transition to permanent supportive housing.
    • Initiate and set goals for programs according to the strategic objectives of the organization.
    • Plan programs from start to completion involving deadlines, milestones and processes.
    • Ensure that appropriate data is collected, reported and analyzed, best practices are established and that we engage in continuous process improvement on a continuous basis.
    • Develop or approve budgets and operations.
    • Initiate and set goals for programs according to the strategic objectives of the organization.
    • Supervise all program involved to provide feedback and resolve complex problems.
    • Discover ways to enhance efficiency and productivity of procedures and people.
    • Apply change, risk and resource management principles when needed.
    • Read reports prepared by managers to determine progress and barriers to success.
    • Ensure program operations and activities adhere to legal and contractual guidelines and agency policies.
    • Keep senior management informed with detailed and accurate reports or presentations.

    Qualifications

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

    • Knowledge of local homeless and social service funded agencies and requirements, including DHS Housing for Health, Department of Mental Health and LAHSA.
    • Strong knowledge of continuum of care and best practices regarding service linkage.
    • Strong working knowledge of mental health and substance abuse issues.
    • Must be highly motivated and a self-starter. The ability to communicate with and relate to a diverse group of people including chronically homeless clients, community, and other staff. Must have excellent administrative and organizational skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to manage and supervise professional and para-professional staff while handling multiple tasks and relating to diverse groups.

    Experience:

    • Experience and strong commitment to serving low income and homeless adults, and special-needs populations.
    • Program Management, including preparing and monitoring program budgets.
    • Demonstrated success in collaborating with partner agencies and convening meetings with other community organizations.
    • Experience providing delivering services to homeless or low income individuals or families.
    • Supervisory experience required.

    Education:

    • Bachelor's or Master's degree in social work, psychology, public health, public policy or similar. Experience in program management may be substituted.

    Direct Reports:

    • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

    Computer Skills:

    • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

    Certificates, Licenses and Registrations:

    • Valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
    • Valid automobile liability insurance.

    Travel Requirements:

    • Travel to meetings at multiple St. Joseph Center sites and at community partner locations as needed.
