    The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Florida College of Medicine - Jacksonville is seeking an applicant to fill a full-time position as a Pediatric Critical Care Neurointensivist in the Division of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine (PCCM) with clinical duties in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Wolfson Children's Hospital.

    The position will be at a non-tenure accruing level of Assistant Professor/Associate Professor/Professor depending on credentials.

    The charge to this faculty member is to provide superior quality clinical care to critically ill pediatric patients with complex neurological illnesses and injuries that may continuous or intermittent monitoring with advanced technologies including continuous video-EEGs, intracranial pressure catheters, transcranial Doppler, and near infrared spectroscopy.


    The qualified candidate should possess the following qualifications:

    • Demonstrated excellence in providing state-of-the-art critical care to pediatric patients with conditions that require expert neurointensive care.
    • Expertise in the understanding and monitoring of primary and secondary neurologic injuries affecting critically ill children (including trauma), with the ability to translate real-time interpretation of monitored physiological parameters into effective clinical interventions.
    • Experience in the diagnosis and management of neurosurgical conditions including in the settings of intraoperative and perioperative care.
    • A track record of establishing and maintaining close working relationships with multiple disciplines including neurology and neurosurgery that has led to adoption of and adherence to evidence-based and formalized consensus best practices.
    • Exemplary clinical, organizational and interpersonal skills and a history of contribution as a collegial, enthusiastic, and "can do" multidisciplinary team member.
    • Enthusiasm and excellence with respect to the education of the full range of pediatric trainees (residents, fellows, advanced practice providers, nurses, and other allied health professionals).


    The PCCM division consists of 8 pediatric critical care specialists, who provide 24 hour in-house coverage in the PICU at Wolfson Children's Hospital.

    The Division has a strong emphasis on academic education and teaching of medical students and residents.

    Wolfson Children's Hospital houses a 24-bed PICU suite (plus 2 burn beds) in a new Critical Care Tower that is also supported by pediatric neurosurgeons, pediatric neurologists, pediatric trauma specialists, pediatric nephrologists, the full range of other pediatric medical subspecialists and surgical specialists, a team of physician assistants and advanced practice registered nurses, registered nurses, respiratory therapists and other healthcare professionals.


    The University of Florida College of Medicine-Jacksonville is the largest of the three colleges at the Health Science Center Jacksonville.

    The college is affiliated with UF Health in Jacksonville, a health system comprised of two hospitals - the 603-bed UF Health Jacksonville and 92-bed UF Health North - and more than 60 primary and specialty care practices throughout Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia.


    The college's 16 clinical science departments house more than 440 faculty members, 1,560 staff and 384 residents and fellows, as well as medical students from UF and around the country.

    We offer an incredible breadth of clinical training program sand proud to train many of best primary care providers and specialists throughout the region, the state and the country.

    The college offers 38 accredited graduate medical education programs and 14 non-standard programs. More than 100 residents and fellows from programs across the U.S. come to UF College of Medicine - Jacksonville to participate in various clinical rotations as well.


    In addition to graduate medical education, clinical rotations in all the major disciplines are provided for students from the UF College of Medicine in Gainesville.

    Third-year medical students enrolled at UF spend about 25 percent of their training at the Jacksonville campus, gaining valuable experience in an urban setting.

    While third-year rotations are only offered to UF students, elective rotations in the final year of clinical training are available to students from accredited schools in the US and Canada.


    For practicing physicians, the college offers a continuing medical education program that recruits national and international speakers who are well known and respected in their fields.

    The college's faculty, residents and fellows are active in clinical research. Residents and fellows regularly present their findings at locations across the country and publish their projects in well-known publications. In 2019, the campus received $23.1 million in external research funding, approximately 50% of which was federally sponsored projects.

    The campus houses a 16,000-square-foot clinical and translational research facility.

    To support faculty and resident research, the college has a Center for Data Solutions, offering researchers analytics, epidemiology and biostatistics support, and a Center for Research Training, helping develop the next generation of highly collaborative clinical researchers.

    Located in the Northeastern part of the state on the Atlantic Ocean, Jacksonville's weather is sunny and pleasant. We enjoy an average of 320 days of sunshine each year, yet have the coolest summers in the state.

    Expected Salary:

    Minimum Requirements:


    Applicants must possess a MD/DO degree, possess or be eligible for a Florida Medical License, and be BE/BC in Pediatric Neurocritical Care Medicine.

    The applicant must be a graduate of an accredited Neurocritical care fellowship program.
