The State of New Hampshire, Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, Division of Parks and Recreation, Cannon Mountain, has a full-time vacancy for a Snowmaking and Construction Sub-Foreman.


Summary:


Assists the Snowmaking and Construction Manager with oversight of and participation in snowmaking activity, and in the operation and maintenance of the snowmaking system, at Cannon Mountain Aerial Tramway & Ski Area.

Carries secondary authority at all times of the year regarding snowmaking operations, and primary authority when the Snowmaking & Construction Foreman is not on the property.

Oversees the summer (ski) trail crew.


Responsibilities:


Oversees third shift snowmaking operations during the winter season, and interacts daily with both the first and second shift foremen and the Snowmaking & Construction Manager.

Assists with recruiting, interviewing, hiring, supervising, scheduling and evaluating more than 30 employees within the snowmaking department.

Monitors time use and effectiveness of crew.

Oversees summer trail crew; performs skilled lumbering and light and medium trail work; interacts daily with Snowmaking and Construction Manager, Trail Crew Supervisor, and Mountain Equipment Operator Foreman.


Assists the Snowmaking and Construction Manager with on and off-season projects, including, but not limited to, pipeline, valve, and welding projects on the mountain; performs maintenance on J-houses (junction houses) on both mountains, and performs maintenance work on both pumps and compressors in the snowmaking buildings.


Maintains and ensures adherence to departmental and agency safety policies and checks safety conditions of trails and agency buildings and grounds (and the use of all adequate PPE) as applicable to insure the well being of public and employees.


Operates several types of equipment safely, including, but not limited to, hand and power tools, on and off-road vehicles, snowcats, and snowmachines.


Writes up annual reports of maintenance operations and inventories to keep accurate and timely records of the park for the Concord Office.

Handles MV2R forms and various other departmental reports as needed.


Prepares requisitions for supplies and equipment to keep the park up to approved standards; makes recommendations on snowmaking equipment to be purchased and initiates contact with and between suppliers and the Cannon / FNSP business office.

Trains crew members in the safe and efficient operation of snowmaking guns and all associated equipment.

Maintains fan guns to ensure optimum performance; operates chairlifts at night (or on shifts as necessary) to support snowmaking crews.

Acts as a member of the ski area/state park management team (operating committee) in the absence of the Snowmaking & Construction Foreman.

18 Months of additional relevant experience = Associate's degree

36 Months of additional relevant experience = Bachelor's degree

54 Months of additional relevant experience = Master's degree


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:
Graduation from high school or G.E.D.

equivalent and completion of a recognized apprenticeship course in one of the skilled trades such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical or mechanical work.

Possession of an Associate's degree in a related technical field may be substituted for the apprenticeship training.

Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.

Experience:

Four years' experience in general maintenance and repair work such as carpentry, plumbing, or mechanical work with at least one season making snow.

Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education beyond the high school or G.E.D.

level.


License/Certification:
Valid driver's license.
