Minimum Qualifications


G1- Bachelor's degree in public health, public administration and policy, epidemiology, statistics, biostatistics, mathematics, social sciences, engineering, health economics, economics, finance, health informatics, economics, business administration, or a related degree.

Related degrees may include Computer Science, Bio-informatics, physics, genetics, or analytics, and two years of post-degree professional research experience in an appropriate field and one year of post-degree professional research experience in an appropriate field.


Substitution:

30 graduate hours leading to an advanced degree in an appropriate field may be substituted for the required experience.

Duties Description


The Assistant Research Scientist/ Research Scientist 1/ Research Scientist 2 (ARS/RS1/RS2) in the New York State Department of Health's Office of Health Services Quality and Analytics will help to ensure that all New Yorkers irrespective of their person and care setting will have access to health care services that are safe and of the highest quality consistent with the best available evidence.

The ARS/RS1/RS2 will work in the Bureau of Vital and Health Statistics to help the Office meet its expanding responsibilities to promote health care quality and patient safety through a variety of data-driven means including health care services analysis, facility quality metrics, development of public data sets, and other ad hoc requests.


The projects include, but are not limited to:

Assistance in the development and maintenance of a broad range of research, analysis, reporting, and evaluation activities that would result in composition of publicly available data sets, visualizations and dashboards using Statewide Planning and Research Cooperative System (SPARCS), All Payer Data (APD) and other available data; Assistance with visualization of the analytical output in Tableau; Assistance with dashboard development; Contribution to publication of statistical briefs, peer-reviewed manuscripts, DOH reports, program reports and technical documentation.


Additional Comments


If appointed as an Assistant Research Scientist, the incumbent will assist other research staff with these duties; if appointed as a Research Scientist 1 level, the incumbent will be expected to perform these duties under general supervision; if appointed as a Research Scientist 2, the incumbent will work with more independence.
