The Ofen Lab for Brain and Cognitive Development (PI: Noa Ofen) at Center for Vital Longevity, University of Texas at Dallas invites applicants for the position of a full-time Research Assistant I.
The lab studies cognitive and brain development from childhood to adulthood, and we are particularly interested in the development of memory systems in the brain.
We use behavioral assessment together with structural and functional neuroimaging measurement (including fMRI and intracranial EEG) to assess developmental changes in task-based functional networks and their underlying brain structures.
The successful candidate will assume a key role in the lab working closely with the PI and will have ample opportunities to participate in all elements of the scientific process culminating in authorship on proceedings and papers.
The position is an excellent opportunity to gain research experience for someone interested in research-based graduate training in psychology or neuroscience.
The position is especially suited for an individual who has strong organizational and technical skills and experience with data analyses in functional neuroimaging.
Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in one of the basic sciences or an equivalent combination of education and experience in customer service or in daily interactions in a public services environment.
Bachelor's degree in cognitive neuroscience or related field and strong computer programming skills. Working knowledge in programing and software used in neuroimaging studies (e.g., SPM, Freesurfer, FSL) is highly desirable. Previous research experience is strongly preferred, specifically prior research in neuroimaging, cognitive psychology, and/or research with children. A two-year commitment is preferred. Preferred start date is January-March 2024.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include assisting in experimental design and coding of stimulus presentation (e.g., using MATLAB/psychtoolbox), supporting the construction and maintenance of functional MRI and intracranial EEG analyses protocols, and supervision of undergraduate volunteers.
Additional duties include:
assisting in recruiting and scheduling participants; behavioral and neuroimaging data collection; preparation and maintenance of IRB protocols; assistance in grant writing and manuscript preparation and general lab management.
Physical Activities Working Conditions Additional Information
The Center for Vital Longevity is located blocks away from The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, and the UTD Imaging Center where our collaborative MRI equipment is housed.
The Research Assistant I will have the opportunity to interact with a large network of collaborators, both at UT Dallas as well as at UTSW and other centers across the country.
The lab is located in the heart of Dallas, a fun, dynamic, and affordable city.Position will work on site and in person.
