    Appointment:
    Regular, full-time (1.0 FTE)


    Position Summary:


    The Student Success Coach (one of two) will work directly with incoming first-year and transfer students to assist them in resolving academic and personal challenges that may present barriers to their success at the University of Puget Sound.

    The Student Success Coach will work collaboratively with colleagues across departments to provide appropriate resources and ongoing support to students and will track their progress toward established goals.

    The Student Success Coach will participate in ongoing case management for students of concern using the Maxient platform. The Student Success Coach will create and implement workshops and programming focused on increasing student persistence toward graduation.


    Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
    Direct Student Support (70%)


    During the Summer:

    • Create programming aimed at increasing the personal and academic success of incoming and future students (Social Media Campaigns, text communication, individual meetings, Discord, etc).
    • Collaborate with Admission and Student Involvement & Programs on communication campaigns for incoming and future students.
    • Coordinate with colleagues in departments across campus to provide necessary resources and assist in resolving student issues

    During the Fall & Spring Semesters:

    • Coach students to create action plans tailored to their individual needs and assist them in tracking progress toward their goals, both academic and personal.
    • Assist students in developing problem-solving, time management, and interpersonal skills that can assist them in navigating academic and personal challenges on campus, and encourage connections with the community.
    • Work with faculty and student support offices (Academic Advising, Office of the Registrar, SFS, etc.) to connect students with specialized support.
    • Perform proactive outreach to students and work with colleagues across campus to address student needs.
    • Offer consultation regarding campus policies related to other offices including residence life, academic advising, and accessibility, and others, connecting students with appropriate offices for further support when necessary.
    • Work to ensure that all Puget Sound students have equitable access to success.
    • Coordinate with colleagues in other departments to provide necessary resources and assist in resolving student issues.
    Tracking & Documenting (20%)


    • Log and manage all relevant information on student cases through the Maxient system.
    • Track student progress toward established goals and assist in ensuring that students are connected with adequate support.
    Student Success and Retention (10%)


    • Create programming aimed at increasing the personal and academic success of current students.
    • Develop, maintain, and evaluate systems to encourage student persistence toward graduation.
    • Identify policies and procedures that present barriers to student success, and work with necessary teams to improve systems to maximize student retention.
    • Conduct Exit Interviews with students who are thinking of leaving the college or have left to learn about their experience and factors that led to their departure.
    • Serve on the Students of Concern team and First Year Experience committee.

    Supervisory Responsibilities:

    • Responsible for hiring and supervising two student office assistants.
    • Supervisory duties include assigning/overseeing/directing work, onboarding and continued coaching, conducting performance reviews, responding to complaints and taking action, developing staffing schedules, and approving timesheets.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor¿s Degree required with at least two years of professional experience working in academic coaching, direct student support, academic advising, mentoring, counseling, social work, or similar fields.
    • Strong understanding of higher education systems.
    • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential student information in compliance with FERPA.
    • Experience in providing support to individuals from a variety of socioeconomic, racial, ethnic, and educational backgrounds, and with varying abilities.
    • Ability to build and nurture professional relationships that encourage trust and collaboration with students, staff members, and faculty.
    • Outstanding written and oral communication skills and demonstrated problem-solving ability.
    • Knowledge of and ability to teach learning techniques, motivational skills, time management tools, and other student-focused skills.
    • Demonstrated conflict resolution skills and teamwork.
    • Computer skills including; word processing, database, and spreadsheet management. Experience with software such as Google Workplace, Slate, Maxient, and PeopleSoft is preferred.
    • Ability to respectfully work, communicate and provide leadership within a diverse campus community

    Compensation and Benefits:
    The anticipated range for this position is $ $24.04 hourly.

    Decisions about starting salaries are made based on the extent and relatedness of the candidate's education and experience and on internal equity and market considerations.

    • Positions that work less than .75 FTE (1,560 hours per year) do not qualify for long-term disability or education benefits.
    • Positions that work less than .50 FTE (1,040 hours per year) will accrue paid sick leave but are not eligible for additional benefits.
    • Temporary positions that work at least .50 FTE (1,040 hours per year) will be eligible for benefits.
    This position is non-exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
