This vacancy is located within the Sex Offender Treatment Programof Eastern Louisiana Mental Health System in Jackson, LA (East Feliciana Parish).
This position may be filled as either a Probational or Job Appointment (open to all qualified applicants); a promotion (open to all statewide classified and Agency wide permanent status employees); or by Detail to Special Duty.
If filled as a Job Appointment, there is a possibility that this position may be converted to a Probational Appointment should funding become available.
This position is specifically for the Forensic Sexual Behavior Program.This position will be working with Eastern Louisiana Mental Health System inpatient clients who have been identified as having sexual behavior problems.
The incumbent in this position will provide specialized counseling as a group leader in groups made up of persons with sexual behavior problems and mental illness with general supervision.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Conducting penile plethysmograph assessments; Assisting in interpretation of penile plethysmograph assessments with supervision; Recommending, with general supervision, therapeutic intervention strategies and treatment approaches based on psychosexual assessment to an interdisciplinary team; Developing a working knowledge of correctional or community resources in order to recommend or refer offenders for specialized services; Attending and participating in community health related programs, in-services, continuing education and maintaining professional reading; and preparing reports, maintaining records and conducting correspondence relevant to area of specialty.
The incumbent in this position may also assist in the training of staff regarding specialized area of expertise.
This position is in a Career Progression Group (CPG) and may be filled as a Professional Counselor 3 or 4 depending on the qualifications of the candidate selected.

Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Registration as either a Provisional Licensed Professional Counselor or a Provisional Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist by the Louisiana Board of Licensed Professional Counselors plus two years of professional level counseling experience.
NOTE:
Pursuant to Act 484 of the 2014 Legislative Session and effective May 1, 2015, Counselor Interns are now called "Provisional Licensed Professional Counselors" (PLPCs) and MFT Interns are now called "Provisional Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists" (PLMFTs).

Participates in the decision making process of the treatment team including formulating therapeutic activities and recommending a treatment plan.
Fulfills the duties of case manager for a specialized caseload of clients with medical or behavior problems requiring coordination of services with many professionals, and having severe consequences of injury or harm.
Conducts complex assessments and independent selection and use of varied in-depth therapies in the treatment of individuals with multi-problem dual diagnosis substance abuse problems (as defined by the Licensed Professional Counselors Board of Examiners in Rule (LAC 46:LX.503.e)).
Develops and plans services that address and/or include family therapy, marital counseling, child abuse and sexual abuse therapy, major family disruption, developmental disabilities, death, and suicide.
Serves as co-therapist with other behavioral health professionals to perform case management or direct treatment services for a specialized complex caseload of clients with alcohol and drug abuse problems.
May provide expert testimony and recommendations on behalf of clients in court cases in response to judges and other officers of the court.
