Job Description:Reporting to the Director, Mental Health Service (MHS), Student Health Center, this counselor offers clinical mental health treatment tailored to the unique needs of LSU students.
The counselor functions as a member of the MHS team consisting of clinical/counseling psychologists, clinical social workers, licensed professional counselors, and a psychiatrist.
The Counselor should have a deep appreciation for the integrated care model, collaborating with the Medical Clinic, Wellness and Health Promotion and Lighthouse Program teams.
In addition, the counselor should be committed to advancing the divisional priorities of quality, access and inclusion, and mattering and belonging.
Job ResponsibilitiesDirect Student Service - 65%Provides individual, couple, and group psychotherapy, using best practices appropriate for a university setting, both in-person and through telehealth with an emphasis on a brief model of psychotherapy.
Conducts initial assessment services including walk-in, crisis intervention, intake for treatment, and referral of students to community and campus resources.
Provides mental health consultation to faculty, staff and parents to help them address the needs of their students in distress.
Collaborative Care & Intern Supervision - 15%Manages caseload, consulting with fellow providers in Student Health Center as needed for peer review and collaborative care practices.
Attends all team, unit and departmental staff meetings, and other meetings as requested. Provides training to mental health interns through didactic seminars, consultation, and direct supervision as needed. Provides outreach and presentations to the campus as needed.Documentation & Quality Control - 15%Carries out administrative responsibilities including documentation, appointment scheduling, community referral follow-up in keeping with departmental policies and professional standards.
Participates in annual quality improvement studies, chart reviews, and required annual training for the center. Other Duties - 5%Performs other duties as assigned by the Director, Mental Health Service.Support broad divisional/institutional efforts including at least 40 hours per year helping with initiatives such as Move-In Day, Welcome Week, Family Weekend, Career Expo, Disability Services Finals Testing, and other special projects.
Minimum QualificationsMaster of Social Work from CSWE accredited graduate program, or Master's degree in mental health counseling from CACREP accredited graduate program.
Master's degree from MPCAC accredited graduate programs may be considered.Three years in the practice of social work or community counseling.
One year clinical work experience working in a multidisciplinary mental health setting.
Minimum Certifications/LicensesLCSW Licensed by the LA Board of Social Work Examiners orLPC or LMFT by the LA Board of Licensed Professional CounselorsOr obtain license for independent practice within 6 months of hirePreferred QualificationsMaster's degreeClinical experience working in an integrated healthcare setting.
