Academic Counselor 1
Under the auspices of the Associate Dean for Academic Programs and Institutional Effectiveness, the Office of Student Services in the College of Human Sciences and Education provides all student-related services for undergraduate students and master's students seeking teacher certification.
The office provides a student friendly environment designed to meet all student needs for recruitment, application, admissions, advising, records, scholarships, PRAXIS, student organizations, and certification.
The Counselor 1 will provide key advisement, retention, and engagement services to a diverse and expanded student population in the college.
50%Academic Advising:
Provides academic and career counseling to prospective, current, and re-entry students pursuing undergraduate degree programs offered through CHSE.
Provides educational guidance and assistance to students by reviewing academic records in relation to the intended degree program, planning schedules, recommending courses and determining appropriate education solutions for different types of students.
Interprets and enforces policies of CHSE and other LSU entities to assist students in matriculation through their intended CHSE degree program.
Follows through and tracks advancement of students as they strive to accomplish their academic goals.Additionally, provides case management to students who do not meet their educational requirements and offers guidance towards other possible academic programs.
Utilizes the various electronic and print based materials, as well as the multiple university databases to interpret the various CHSE degree programs.
General administrative responsibilities in addition to individual academic counseling include, timely response to student, staff, and faculty email and telephone communication, processing of university required forms (i.e., implementation of grade exclusion, processing late drop/add requests, processing CHSE admission applications.)25%
Academic Programming:
Develops and conducts a variety of academic programs, workshops, and public presentations for current and prospective students and parents.
Assists with data collection and interpretation of programs implemented by the CHSE Office of Student Services.20%
Engagement Activities:
Participates in recruiting events freshman and transfer orientations, CHSE residential college activities, and specialized retention activities directed at the CHSE population when needed.

The College of Human Sciences & Education houses over 2900 majors each year with Kinesiology boasting between students yearly.
This position is critical as the sheer large number of majors and specificity of prerequisite coursework to bridge students graduate schools needs a bountiful level of accountability and experience.
This job will consist of three areas of responsibility: 1) Counselor for all undergraduate student advising/counseling; 2) Coordinator for the School of Kinesiology Advising/ Counseling and recruitment Programs 3) Kinesiology Liaison for the graduate programs50% Provides academic counseling to undergraduate Human Science & Education majors daily.
This includes but is not limited to course Academic planning, advising, admission to School (from other colleges and universities, LSU Online, prospective students, and re-entry students) study abroad enrollment approval, interpretation of college and university policies, adding/changing minors & concentrations, IDL/ODL courses, credit exam forms and financial aid SAP approvals.
Assists with the School outreach initiatives, preparation and signing of graduation contracts and verification of senior grades.20% Manages the Kinesiology majors programming and Counseling.
Responsible for managing all procedures involved with the program including but not limited to:
maintains current program admitted students rosters; contacts and meets with students to sign pertinent program and graduation contracts; advising prospective and current students; monitors satisfactorily academic progress; responsible for coordinating OSS Kinesiology Events.
15% Participates in the college recruiting programs including attendance of events, campus visitor scheduling, development of college presentations/programming for various recruiting events, college presenter, and collaboration on all college communication materials related to recruitment.
10% Liaison with the Office of Enrollment Management and the Office of Orientation; under the leadership of the Associate Director of Student Services Lead coordinator of Kinesiology involvement in OSS, Freshman Orientation and Transfer Student Advising Programs (such as Bengal Bound) including but not limited to any other freshman or newly admitted student program: remains current on freshman and transfer enrollment and placement procedures and changes; supervises approval of student class schedules and discusses scheduling issues with students; on an as needed basis.
Primary lead counselor in advising potential Kinesiology graduate students regarding program requirements, completing students' course scheduling, Graduate School regulations, etc.
Assists with graduate student recruiting, orientation.Other responsibilities as assigned by the Assistant Dean and Associate Director for Student Services.
