Job Description:
This position will work directly with students of the School of Veterinary Medicine to provide individual and group psychotherapy counseling services, student support, programmatic support, and curriculum support.
This position will work collaboratively with the other mental health professionals both at the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine (Vet Med) and at the LSU Student Health Center (SHC).
Job Responsibilities:
75% - Student Support: Provide in person individual and group psychotherapy counseling service to veterinary students with an emphasis on a brief model of psychotherapy.
Active collaboration with a learning specialist, faculty, Senior Associate Dean for Student Success and other administrative teams to ensure provision of a strong support network.
Carry out caseload management and administrative responsibilities including documentation, appointment scheduling, and maintaining appropriate medical documentation/records of all clinical work in the designated Electronic Health Record of the LSU SHC.
Adhere to all pertinent professional ethical codes related to practicing confidential mental health services.
10% - Programmatic Support: Provide mental health consultation to faculty, staff, house officers and parents to help them address the needs of students.
10% - Curriculum and Collaboration: Curricular support including orientations and instruction within the realm of wellbeing. Provide supervision to master's level interns affiliated with the LSU School of Social Work. Build collaboration and communication between LSU Vet Med and the LSU Student Health Center. Attend regular meetings to ensure continuity of care with the LSU Student Health Center. Attend continuing education and identify resources for professional growth.
5% - Serve as backup for clients in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital in need of grief counseling in the absence of the other grief counselors.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree in social work, clinical psychology, or counseling and 3 years of experience.
Specific Experience - Working with students who are college age or older with mental health concerns. Practice of counseling in a counseling/clinical setting.
Licenses/certifications - Appropriate licensure for degree/education
Preferred Qualifications:
Ph.
D. in social work, clinical psychology, or counseling and 3+ years of experience.
Licenses/certifications - LCSW, LPC
Special and Physical Qualifications:
FERPA - As with all LSU employees, due to this position title and/or responsibilities, this position has an obligation to assist students in the acquisition of necessary services. Should a student appear in need of or seek assistance with issues of an emotional, behavioral, or mental health related matter they should be referred to the proper service within the Student Health Center. In situations where the student creates an impression that they are a danger to themselves or others, the advisor should immediately contact the Care Team, the Dean of Students, or the appropriate law enforcement agency. The employee outside of those rights contained within FERPA should create no impression of client or patient confidentiality.
Required to be capable of lifting up to 50 pounds, sitting, standing, walking, bending, reaching above the shoulder, reaching below the shoulder, vision near sight, vision far sight, climbing, crawling, twisting, pushing/pulling, grasping, and squatting.
