    Pediatric Medical Device Regulatory Research Scientist - Chicago, United States - Northwestern University

    The Department of Pediatrics ) at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine seeks a full-time non-tenure-eligible team scientist at the rank of assistant professor.

    Responsibilities include participation in multiple research projects and initiatives that involve pediatric medical device development, evaluation of medical device regulatory landscape and health outcomes, and pediatric medical device clinical studies.

    The candidate is expected to possess expertise in: 1) developing clinical research methodologies to evaluate safety and effectiveness of interventional and diagnostic medical devices in pediatric populations; 2) applying FDA medical device regulations to accelerate clinical evidence generation process and medical device approvals; 3) writing research strategies for grant applications, manuscripts, and other publication; 4) supporting regulatory submissions by faculty, tech transfer office, and other startups e.g. Breakthrough Device or Safer Technologies Programs.

    Qualified candidates will collaborate with other faculty at Northwestern University on research projects that require knowledge and skills associated with developing research and regulatory strategy surrounding pediatric medical devices.

    Seeking independent research funding is encouraged as a component of a larger collaborative role. The candidate will join the department, an interdisciplinary group within the medical school comprising primarily M.D. and Ph.
    D. scientists conducting human-subjects research with an outreach mission to clinical departments.

    The department welcomes applications from individuals who may have had nontraditional career paths, or who may have taken time off for family reasons (e.g., children, caring for disabled or elderly family), or who have achieved excellence in careers outside of academia (e.g., in professional or industry service).


    Summary of job qualifications:

    • Hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) in biological or biomedical research discipline
    • Documented expertise in the US regulatory considerations for medical device development and approval
    • Experience working on research projects and initiatives concerning pediatric populations
    • Proven record of publishing research publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals
    Summary of job expectations and responsibilities performed under the mentorship of the PI and in collaboration with other investigators in a team-science manner:


    • Contribute expertise in pediatric medical device development and research, including methods for safety and effectiveness evaluation during clinical studies, and development of customer discovery surveys;
    • Help develop novel research hypotheses;
    • Interpret data, present data, write manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals;
    • Contribute to identification of relevant grant opportunities, grant writing, and grant submission,
    • Aid in training and mentorship of students, residents, fellows and early-career faculty.
