    About the Department


    Molecular and Cytogenetic Pathology (MCP) at University of Chicago was created to bring together the latest in genomics technologies, computational biology approaches and scientific knowledge for the care of patients at the University and the broader community.

    For cancer and a host of other diseases, genetic information is a critical piece of the puzzle, and can help to better define disease, predict its progression, and most importantly help to select the best possible treatment for each individual patient.

    Key areas of research interest in MCP involve the development of novel methodologies for cancer genomic diagnostics as well as genomics-guided investigations of anti-tumor immunity with an aim for development of novel cellular therapeutics.

    Job Summary


    The Staff Scientist for Cancer Genomics Research and Development is a fully funded position that will provide in-depth exposure to cancer genomics and genomic diagnostics, and to tumor immunology and cellular therapy.

    This key position will manage and conduct research and development projects related to 1) genomics investigations of cancer samples and development of novel genomics methodologies for oncology diagnostics and 2) tumor immunology projects focused on anti-neoantigen T cell responses with an aim towards the development of personalized cellular immunotherapies.

    Responsibilities


    • Designs and conducts research for developing next generation sequencing methods.
    • Designs and conducts research projects involving characterization of patient anti-tumor immune responses and development of individualized cellular therapeutics.
    • Develops advanced skills related to scientific hypothesis formulation, testing and application to samples derived from patient materials.
    • Presents research findings at local and national scientific conferences and weekly laboratory meetings.
    • Leads or participates in University of Chicago Seminar Weekly Series.
    • Collaborates with peers and other faculty in research and publication.
    • Performs experiments and collects and analyzes data. Participates in the promotion of a research project.
    • Participates in the preparation and writing of grant applications and reports, and co- authors/authors scientific research manuscripts. Provides peer review of grant applications and scientific manuscripts.
    • Collaborates on the development of new research projects with academic and community-based organizations.
    • May present work at scientific meetings.
    • Serves as a resource for collecting data and performing analysis. Contributes to facilitating and promoting a research project by providing scientific or intellectual information.
    • Reviews laboratory protocols and training on new techniques. Manages complex data sets for research.
    • Leads the contributions to scientific writing and publications, including protocols and grants.
    • Trains new laboratory personnel.
    • Performs other related work as needed.
    Minimum Qualifications


    Education:
    Minimum requirements include a PhD in related field.

    Experience:
    Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 2-5 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

    Experience:

    • Next generation sequencing (NGS) sample preparation, cell culture, flow cytometry.
    • Background in imaging and cancer biology is a plus.

    Technical Skills or Knowledge:

    • Proficient knowledge of computer word processing, spreadsheets, database software, power point, statistics and other software used in scientific research analysis.
    • Advanced knowledge and skills in molecular biology, translational research, bioinformatics, and research techniques or methods.
