    Job Description Summary
    The Associate Director of Financial Aid assists the Director in planning, managing the day-to-day operations of the Financial Aid Office, and ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations, school and office policies and procedures. Building relationships with prospective and current students, alumni, community stakeholders, and programs and departments across the University, the Associate Director ensures the strategic use of financial aid as a key recruitment strategy in increasing enrollment, attracting a diverse and talented student body, and increasing SP2's positive impact on the Philadelphia region and beyond. This individual works closely with the Director of Financial Aid and other senior staff to identify problems and initiate improvements for student service, regulatory compliance, and other goals of the office and school.

    * All SP2 staff are required to participate in convocation and graduation ceremonies as needed.

    Job Description

    Job Responsibilities

    Oversee and implement the administration of the SP2 federal work-study program which includes:
    • Create and disseminate information/required documentation to prospective, entering and returning students from pre-admission through graduation regarding federal student work-study program.
    • Manage work study appointments for all graduate programs (MSW, MSSP, MSSP+DA and NPL) during internships, practicums, and field placements.
    • Collaborate with SP2 Office of Community-Engaged Professional Education to identify students that require background checks for their student worker position.
    • In conjunction with Central H.R., this position manages the background check process including but not limited to receiving and disseminating access codes to students, track and record the process until completed, arranging for necessary payments and facilitate student workshops.

    Manage distribution of all SP2 student aid to student accounts:
    • Upload student scholarship/endowed funding into Feeder App and Banner and review for accuracy based on status of enrollment.
    • Identify changes in enrollment and make required adjustments to student accounts.
    • Utilize exception reports to confirm charges in the student account system to all financial aid awards.
    • Work with the Director of Financial Aid to develop specialized reports for budgeting, forecasting, and various data requests.


    Counsel prospective, current, and former students on matters of financial aid, personal financial management, and debt management. Interpret and explain financial aid policies and financing options to applicants, students, and others. Provides guidance to students who are requesting re-evaluation of awards. Provide guidance to students regarding the appeal process for scholarship funding utilizing Slate.

    Responsible for successful operation of special programs; Coverdell Fellows, CWEL, and City Year at SP2. This work includes, but is not limited to, identifying candidates, notifying selected recipients, posting, and tracking of the awards in Banner. Maintain clear communication and relationship with partner organizations and SP2 stakeholders to ensure smooth and successful program operations.

    Maintain website and SharePoint content for the Financial Aid Office. Position is point of contact for SP2 web master and SP2 IT department. Create, update and maintain the office's standard operating procedures.

    Develop financial aid presentations and coordinate financial literacy outreach and events. Participate in recruitment events including information sessions, accepted student open houses and new student orientations.

    Perform additional duties as assigned, including participation in convocation and graduation ceremonies as needed.

    Qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree is required and a minimum of 2 - 3 years' experience required; minimum of five years professional financial aid experience preferred. Knowledge of Banner, Microsoft Applications and electronic reporting processes is a plus. Knowledge of financial aid regulations, student budgets, financial aid packaging, professional judgment, debt management, scholarships, direct and alternative loan programs. Experience managing scholarship portfolios (endowed, annual, institutional and alumni scholarship sources), and knowledge of forecasting is a plus. Effective public speaking and interpersonal/counseling skills are required. Ability to handle multiple tasks and complete various projects within designated deadlines. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and an ability to work collaboratively as part of an administrative team.
