    GENERAL SUMMARY:


    The Assistant Lead Perinatal Sonographer is a critical member of a multidisciplinary team working to evaluate, diagnose and manage complex maternal and fetal conditions during pregnancy.

    The Assistant Lead Sonographer works closely with the Lead Sonographer to plan and deliver training and ensure ongoing programmatic quality assurance at all practice sites.

    This role requires a mature diagnostic ultrasound skill set, medical knowledge of multi-system fetal developmental abnormalities, experience in training and supervision.


    Competency Requirements:

    1.

    Patient Care and Procedural Skills:

    • The sonographer must be able to provide patient care that is compassionate, appropriate, and effective.
    • Ensure a safe and comfortable experience for the patient during the study.
    • Create and edit orders in the electronic medical record.
    • Create patient records in the sonography reporting software system.
    • Create sonographer reports in the sonography reporting software system and enter requisite data.
    • Demonstrate timeliness in completion of studies and documentation.
    • The sonographer must be able to perform all the following diagnostic procedures.
    • Detailed fetal anatomic surveys
    • Fetal Echocardiography
    • Doppler assessment of arterial and venous blood vessels.
    • Nuchal Translucency
    • Biophysical Profiles
    • Fetal growth assessments
    • Transvaginal cervical length assessments
    • Provide sonographic assistance for procedures (chorionic villus sampling, amniocentesis, cerclage)

    Medical Knowledge:


    • The sonographer must demonstrate knowledge of the requisite biotechnological and biomedical sciences, as well as application of this knowledge to patient care.
    • Optimize US settings for image acquisition.
    • Differentiate normal from abnormal fetal anatomic development.
    • Identify sonographic aneuploidy markers.
    • Identify muti-system fetal development abnormalities, with a focus on cardiac

    Practice-Based Learning and Improvement:


    • The sonographer must demonstrate the ability to investigate and evaluate their care of
      patients, to appraise and assimilate scientific evidence, and to continuously improve patient care based on constant self-evaluation and life-long learning.
    • Incorporate formative feedback provided by peers and attending physicians.
    • Complete assigned reading in medical journals / texts relevant to patient care issues.
    • Present imaging cases at multidisciplinary care conferences.
    • Train and supervise members of the team

    Interpersonal and Communication Skills:



    • The sonographer must demonstrate interpersonal and communication skills that result in the effective exchange of information and collaboration with patients, their families, and health professionals
    • Effectively present patients and study findings to attending physicians.
    • Provide instructions to the patient regarding the purpose and content of each visit.
    • Effectively address patient questions and concerns during each visit.
    • Appropriately elevate patient questions and concerns to supervising physician.
    • Prevents and mediates conflict and distress among interprofessional team members.
    • Communicates clearly, concisely, on time, and in an organized written form, including providing anticipatory guidance

    • The sonographer must demonstrate a commitment to carrying out professional responsibilities and an adherence to ethical principles.

    Systems-Based Practice


    • The sonographer must demonstrate an awareness of and responsiveness to the larger context and system of health care, as well as the ability to call effectively on other resources in the system to provide optimal health care.
    • Perform studies effectively in both the ambulatory perinatal unit and in the inpatient setting.
    • Train other sonographers in effective provision of patient care
    • Advocate for quality patient care.
    Participate in identifying system errors and implementing potential systems solutions.


    Qualifications:

    • Graduation from a school of Diagnostic Medical Sonography; or high school diploma or GED and clinical ultrasound/vascular experience as approved by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in OB/Gyn.
    • Current registration as a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) in Obstetrics and Gynecology (RDMS OB/GYN) granted by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or OB/Gyn and Fetal echocardiography and remain in good standing.
    • NT credential preferred, but not required
    • Minimum 5 years of experience in Maternal-Fetal Medicine sonography.
    • Demonstrates ability to communicate by reading, writing legibly, speaking, and comprehending English effectively to carry out job requirements
    • Current BLS
    • Current driver's license issued by Department of Motor Vehicles
