Description

In partnership with department colleagues and lower school teachers, the instructor is responsible for introducing musical literacy, integrating movement, and inspiring a love of music in grades JK-4. The strongest candidates will demonstrate the ability to inspire creativity and joy among young students.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES AS REQUIRED:

Organize, plan, and implement concerts and programs
Coach students in auditioning for KMEA and ACDA honor choirs
Serve as a member of the Fine Arts Department, attending departmental meetings, developing and updating course curricula, and supporting the work of the department
Support the school, its mission, and its leadership
Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School
- A bachelor's degree in music or elementary education; advanced degree is preferred
- A passion for teaching music, and a demonstrated passion and understanding of the developmental needs of elementary-aged students
- An understanding of best practices in music education, developmentally appropriate repertoire, and sufficient piano skills to facilitate rehearsals
- Knowledge of working solfege, movement, singing; training in Orff a plus
- Experience in classroom management
- Ability to integrate technology and use innovative curricula
- Ability to differentiate instruction when necessary to reach all levels of learners
- Ability to collaborate both within the department and across other disciplines
- Ability to build strong working relationships with colleagues, students, and families
- Authentic, clear, and confident communication skills, both written and oral
- Dedication to continuing professional development
- Enthusiastic involvement in the school community outside the classroom
- Understanding of independent schools is preferred
