SUMMARY
The Service Technician II is responsible for, but not limited to, performing duties of preventive maintenance services, light and heavy vehicles and equipment, minor, major and complex repairs.
Cleanup of shop and tools, and aid to other personnel with equipment problems as directed by the Fleet and Equipment Maintenance Supervisor.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
The Service Technician II is supervised by the Fleet and Equipment Maintenance Supervisor.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform and assist other service technicians in repair and maintenance of equipment and tires, new and old.
- Provides repairs and balances on new and used tires. Mounts and dismount.
- Maintains vehicles by washing and cleaning any vehicle or piece of equipment that needs cleaning.
- Performs related special projects as assigned.
- Complies with departmental and countywide policies, procedures, and safety standards.
- Accurately records costs and accurate descriptions of work actually performed by the department.
- Performs preventative maintenance necessary to ensure the proper functioning of vehicles and/or heavy equipment, mechanical systems, and component parts.
- Performs mechanical work, including, but not limited to brake jobs on vehicles, light trucks repair, and replace water/fuel pumps, radiators, alternators, belts, hoses, fuses, valves, and batteries.
- Aids operators and other personnel with equipment problems.
- Operates a variety of hand, power, and shop tools including vehicle lifts, hydraulic jacks, tire machines and balancers, overhead crane, and wash rack.
- Informs Fleet and Equipment Maintenance Supervisor of supply needs and parts inventory.
- Responds to service calls for assistance.
- Retrieves or repairs vehicles and equipment in the field as required.
- Assists in locating mechanical parts as required.
- Responsible for cleaning and maintaining shop facilities, vehicle, and equipment and cleaning break room.
- Transports vehicles and equipment to various locations as required.
- Performs vehicle inspections for the State of Texas utilizing the computerized emissions testing equipment.
- Occasional on call duty may be required along with extra duties in the absence of Fleet and Equipment Maintenance Supervisor.
- Operate a welder, cutting torch and minor fabrication work as needed.
- Ability to operate machinery in order to diagnose an issue that is occurring.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- One year experience in equipment or vehicle maintenance.
- Technical school training in mechanics or related field (preferred)
- Familiar with hand tools and mechanic shop tools.
- General working knowledge of vehicle mechanical and electrical systems.
- General knowledge of the practices, methods, materials and tools used in modern equipment repair facilities.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, vendors and the public.
- Must maintain a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Must be selfmotivated and administer all job responsibilities with limited supervision.
- Must have knowledge of basic mathematical principles.
- Ability to communicate effectively in person, by phone, in writing and electronically, to interact in a courteous, respectful and effective manner with the general public, elected and appointed officials of the County and Cities, other organizations, and other County personnel.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES & REGISTRATIONS
- Texas Class "A" Commercial Driver's License with Tanker and Air Brake Endorsement
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be insurable with the County insurance carrier.
- Maintain a safe driving record throughout employment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to climb ladders, carry toolboxes and operate hand and power tools.
