***:- Works in collaboration with center staff to individualize services for children with disabilities and their families in inclusive environments. Assist in the provision of educational support strategies to address special needs of children.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- 1. Assists the Teacher and Teacher Assistant in implementing educational programs for each child in the classroom and on playground.
- 2. Ensures there is a safe and healthy developmentally appropriate learning environment. Protects the safety of children by implementing active supervision techniques to ensure no child is left alone or unsupervised at any time.
- 3. Work in coordination with multidisciplinary team to ensure the needs of children, families and staff are met. Participate in case management team meetings.
- 4. Maintains accurate records, both on paper and in designated online systems. Maintains confidentiality regarding students and families.
- 5. Review IEP/IFSP goals and other disability service records as appropriate and assist in planning to ensure goals are incorporated into daily educational activities. Assist in the coordination of services for children with disabilities with LEA's, Consultants, and other service providers.
- 6. Maintains confidentiality regarding students.
- 7. Assist center staff to recruit, identify, refer, and provide services to children with disabilities and their families.
- 8. Assist with the recruitment and enrollment of children with disabilities.
- 9. Creates ways to engage parents in the education of their children including encouraging classroom involvement and home activities.
- 10. Engages in ongoing communication with staff and parents about any special needs/concerns. Notifies parents of all screening and evaluation results.
- 11. Assists the Teacher in record keeping, observations, assessments, and screenings.
- 12. Serves as a liaison between staff and parents.
- 13. Works with Mental Health Consultant to set up classroom and individual child observations.
- 14. Assist children in health and personal habits, such as eating, resting, brushing teeth, and toilet habits.
- 15. Assist with the mobilization and documentation of matching/inkind funds.
- 16. Fills in on a temporary basis when a staff member needs to leave the classroom for a short duration.
- 17. Participates in staff meetings and training sessions.
- 18. Works in cooperation with supervisor to develop and document progress on professional development plan. Actively engages in professional development activities to increase qualifications in accordance with Corporation's Core Values.
- 19. Work may require the flexibility to stay until all children have left the program.
- 20. Perform all other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- This position has no direct supervisory duties.
ROLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience Requirements:
Job Code 247 / Grade 2A
- Child Development Associate (CDA) credential in assigned age group or ability to obtain the CDA within9 months of hire is required. Experience working with young children is required.
Job Code 248 / Grade 2B
- Associate's degree (AA) or higher in Early Childhood Education or related field*, 2 years of experience working with preschool children is required.
Preferred:
- Bilingual ability is preferred.
- Minimum of six months experience in a similar position working with children.
- Prior experience in a clerical, food service, office or organizing role is preferred.
- Must be able to get certification for CPR and First Aid after hire and recertify as required.
- Stateawarded certificate that meets or exceeds the requirements for an Infant/Toddler CDA credential maybe substituted.
Skills and Abilities:
- Bilingual ability is preferred.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
- Work is performed mostly inside the facility.
- Sitting walking, stooping, squatting, lifting (up to 30 lbs.), carrying, pushing and climbing.
- Moving through the Center, classrooms and playground. Ability to respond to quickly changing situations in a safe manner.
- Frequent exposure to adverse weather conditions. Exposure to blood, other bodily fluids, cleaning chemicals and dirt.
- Occasional pushing of heavy cart, bend
