Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Responsible for outreach, education, and referral to services
- Screens clients for mental health and alcohol/substance use disorder using validated scales.
- Provides brief interventions for patients with mild behavioral health disorders.
- Refers clients to appropriate services following a triage algorithm.
- Coordinates care with therapist for ongoing counseling services
- Assists in the planning, coordination, and facilitation of groupbased psychoeducation, support and activities.
- Provides client education in some aspects of mental health through survivorcentered and confidential assistance.
- Documents all patient encounters in HIPAA secure platforms, as required for reporting.
- Maintains and updates a resource network of referrals for clients.
- Participates in relevant training, conferences, and multidisciplinary client care.
- Obtains and maintains CHWcertification as required by the Maryland Department of Health
- Maintains professional/personal boundaries with patients, keeping supervisor apprised of all situations of possible conflict, and maintains strict confidentiality of all patient information.
- Assists with coordination of outreach activities and is a key contact person for leaders of communitybased organizations.
- Effectively collaborates will all communitybased partners and provides excellent customer service.
- Develops and maintains a thorough knowledge Office for Victims of Crime (OVC) Services for Victims of Human Trafficking Grant Program and stays informed of programmatic updates and training opportunities.
- Ensures complete, accurate, and timely documentation for each case file in accordance with grant requirements.
- Collaborates across organization programs and grant partners to ensure client and organization goals are met.
Additional Skills, Knowledge, & Abilities
- Spanish language fluency is required (must pass qualified bilingual staff test administered by JH Language Access Services)
- Must be comfortable working with the participant population. Experience working with uninsured lowincome immigrants with limited English proficiency.
- Ability to judge when to seek supervision.
- Flexible hours required.
- Knowledge and understanding of Federal statutes regulating confidentiality of drug and alcohol records and laws for reporting of child and elder abuse is required.
- Experience with computers including word processing, databases and excel spreadsheets.

- Ability to stand, walk or sit for an extended period of time.

- Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s), for example, using a keyboard.
- Communication skills using the spoken word.
- Ability to see within normal parameters.
- Ability to hear within normal range.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or graduation equivalent.
- Two years related experience.
- Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with chronic mental illness, alcohol/substance use disorder, migrant population, and adolescents and young adults preferred.
- Ability to use independent judgment and give exceptional attention to detail.
