- Develop and implement a fundraising plan for major gifts targeted at individuals capable of providing donations ranging from $25,000 to $100,000.
- Collaborate with executive leadership and board members to engage donors and secure major gifts through personalized solicitations, proposals, and presentations.
- Manage a substantial portfolio of warm leads and designated major donors, ensuring timely and meaningful interactions and stewardship efforts.
- Collaborate with the development and communications teams to ensure cohesive messaging and teamwork in fundraising strategies.
- Utilize donor database systems to monitor interactions, oversee donor relationships, and generate reports on major gifts activities.
- Participate in events, meetings, and networking opportunities as required.
- Stay abreast of fundraising, philanthropy, and nonprofit sector trends and best practices.
- Proven experience in nonprofit fundraising with a solid grasp of fundraising tactics, systems, and procedures.
- Experience in managing a donor portfolio, including identification, cultivation, and stewardship.
- Strong organizational and prioritization abilities, capable of handling multiple projects concurrently.
- Keen attention to detail with a proactive approach and excellent follow-up skills.
- Superb people skills: outstanding listening and strategic communication skills encompassing writing and public speaking, with the capacity to connect with and motivate a diverse range of stakeholders.
- Strong analytical skills and proficiency in leveraging data to inform fundraising decisions, partnership collaborations, and forecasts. Preferably familiar with Blackbaud RE-NXT.

As the primary organization combating hunger in the region, we play a crucial role in supporting the 1 in 4 San Diegans experiencing food insecurity.
With a $20 million operating budget funded by our generous donors and a dedicated team of 97 staff members, we reach out to more than 400,000 individuals and families on a monthly basis. The newly established role of Major Gifts Officer will be reporting to Kimberley Layton, Chief Advancement & Communications Officer.
A seasoned leader in both civic and corporate settings, Kimberley brings over three decades of experience in fast-paced environments, highlighting her dedication to leadership and service.
Prior to joining in 2023, Kimberley spent 23 years with the San Diego Chargers (now Los Angeles), holding the position of Vice President of External Affairs.
The Major Gifts Officer will become part of a dynamic and expanding development team that is passionate about raising funds to further our cause.
Salary: $80,000 - $100,000

This position is a hybrid role based at 9850 Distribution Ave., San Diego, CA 92121.
Joining as a new team member, you will be stepping into a role that carries the responsibility for managing the Food Bank's prequalified group of over 500 donors and potential supporters.
The Major Gifts Officer will be tasked with devising and executing innovative strategies for identifying, nurturing, soliciting, and stewarding major, planned, and leadership donations from existing and prospective donors.
This is a highly collaborative position that involves working closely with the development team and across departments to enhance donor relationships and assistance.
Your role will encompass providing strategic and operational support for overall fundraising activities and organizational functions. This role presents an excellent opportunity for an individual who is creative, personable, and adept at building relationships, particularly for those who are enthusiastic about serving the San Diego community.
