    POSITION: (Cook County) Director, Community Engagement

    DEPARTMENT: Community Impact

    REPORTS TO: Senior Director, Community Engagement

    PAY GRADE: 8

    FLSA: Full Time, Exempt

    POSITION OVERVIEW

    The (CC) Director of Community Engagement is accountable for implementing United Way's Neighborhood Network strategy, including leading the Cook County Transforming Places Initiative. The (CC) Director, Community Engagement position is a community-facing role and will collaborate closely with the Cook County Bureau of Economic Development, Community Impact, Partner Engagement, Resource Development, and MarCom teams. This role will also collaborate with Community Impact colleagues and other organizations across the suburban Cook County region to wrap resources into Neighborhood Networks, including capacity building, program grants, pro-bono assistance, corporate and community volunteers, government resources, and advocacy efforts.

    The (CC) Director of Community Engagement role is a two-year grant funded position in accordance with the implementation of the Cook County Transforming Places Pilot Program.

    CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Oversee implementation of the Transforming Places initiative in conjunction with Cook County Bureau of Economic Development in five suburban cook county regions
    • Lead expansion of new Neighborhood Networks in suburban Cook County through coalition development, aligning human services programs and connecting them to Cook County resources and economic development efforts
    • Work closely with identified lead agencies to align United Way's place-based model with local conditions and dynamics, aid in identifying community priorities, and develop communications, measurement, fundraising, and sustainability plans
    • Oversee and support coalition infrastructure development and annual workplan development in collaboration with CI colleagues
    • Build and manage relationships with community stakeholders
    • Work with Director, Capacity Building and Operations and other member of the CI team to ensure continuous improvement is consistently practiced across Networks
    • Ensure lead agencies remain in compliance with United Way grant agreements
    • Provide regional guidance for variances in the model through implementation phases to refine and improve United Way's practices.
    • Work collaboratively with internal teams to create a plan for executing capacity building strategy for Network lead and partner agencies
    • Maintain relationships and credibility among community leadership, organizations, advocates, elected officials, and residents
    • Provide strategic support to Network coalitions in mobilizing government, non-profit organizations, small businesses, and other community stakeholders to define common community goals and implementation strategies
    • Collaborate with MarCom and Partner Engagement departments to identify marketing and volunteer opportunities within Networks
    • Performs other responsibilities as assigned by the management team

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor's degree and/or combination of equivalent employment and education experience and a minimum of 10 years' experience managing nonprofit partnerships, economic development or urban planning initiatives, community engagement, organizational capacity, needs assessment, and outreach
    • Proven experience mobilizing sustainable, community-wide engagement efforts in the health and human services arena for low-income communities
    • Knowledge and relationships within South Suburban Cook County
    • Experience with community organizing and advocacy
    • Highly organized, meticulous attention to detail, ability to multi-task, prioritize, delegate, and execute concurrent projects and day-to-day tasks within a fast-paced environment from inception to conclusion
    • Possess an entrepreneurial spirit, with the ability to work well independently and collaborate within a team
    • Ability to take in significant amounts of information from various sources and distill key messages that create alignment and consensus internally and externally
    • Strong presentation skills to various key stakeholders internally and externally
    • Strong management, leadership, team building, problem solving, critical thinking, and judgment skills
    • Strong communication skills and orientation toward relationship-building
    • Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation and able to travel within the region as necessary
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
    • Spanish language proficiency preferred, but not required
    • Experience or familiarity with navigating local government preferred, but not required
