    Summary

    The Air Traffic Organization (ATO) are the 35,000 controllers, technicians, engineers, and support personnel whose daily efforts keep aircraft safe, separated, and on time. The Office of Safety and Technical Training is responsible for proactively identifying and mitigating operational risk and preparing Air Traffic Controllers and Technical Operations Technicians & Engineers with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed daily.

    Duties

    The Director, ATO Technical Training is responsible for ensuring the integration and alignment of ATO technical training efforts with ATO and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) goals. The Director leads the ATO strategy for centralizing direct mission support technical training policies and ensures accountability and oversight.

    The Director oversees and has direct line authority over approximately 100 staff, including seventeen (17) senior managers responsible for safety and technical training services, requirements, and policies required to maintain and accomplish ATO's mission and vision. The Director also administers a budget of approximately $85M.

    Principal Responsibilities

  • Provides executive leadership, direction, and guidance to ATO on the overall design, management, and delivery of an integrated technical training strategy that addresses short and long-term training needs including initial certification, refresher, proficiency, skills, and remedial training.
  • Develops training requirements and the design standards for training, evaluating training, cataloging, and indexing content for the overall technical training curriculum.
  • Provides executive leadership and strategic direction for developing policies and standards for ATO technical training activities and ensures policies are consistent with overall organizational strategy.
  • Monitors performance outcomes to ensure standards, technology management, and acquisition outcomes for technical training comply with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) policy.
  • Routinely communicates and collaborates with senior ATO and FAA executives, managers, other federal agencies and training organizations, and state and local governments on all matters related to ATO technical training. Exercises delegated authority to make commitments on behalf of ATO leadership on the issues directly affecting the safety and efficiency of the national airspace.
