    Under the direction and supervision of the municipal Administrator, the Communications Director handles all Communications and Outreach for the Municipality.

    The CD reports to the Administrator and works collaboratively with all municipal departments. This position is a full-time, in-office role.

    The CD is responsible for developing and executing communication and outreach strategies.
    This role will be expected to fulfill the defined job responsibilities on-site in the Princeton, NJ office. The schedule for this is the standard office hours of 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

    with flexibility in schedule to accommodate participation in evening and weekend hours for Council meetings and other events as required.


    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS PERFORMED
    Develop and implement communications strategies.
    Develop and produce content to engage and educate audiences across the Municipality's various channels, including

    newsletters, blogs, website and social media.
    Responsible for writing and coordinating the production of the weekly Municipal Newsletter with input of content from

    staff and the governing body.
    Lead for management of the Municipal website, calendar, notices, etc. Handle all website updates for the home page

    and updates of council and board, commission and committee meetings, pages, notices, documents, announcements.
    Develop and execute social media activities across multiple channels, including the Municipality's social media

    channels (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, NextDoor, LinkedIn), ensuring tone, frequency, and messaging are consistent and support the Municipality's objectives. Post and monitor all comments and content on the channels.
    Oversee the social media archiving platform, Archive Social.
    Manage Princeton's YouTube channel by uploading and posting meetings and recordings.
    Coordinate with the staff and governing body on various initiatives, including communications planning and execution

    and production of materials as needed.
    Coordinate with staff and governing body to identify, plan, develop, and manage inclusive opportunities/events to hear

    community voices that fully represent the demographics of Princeton.
    Serve as the Municipality's primary press contact, including drafting and distributing press releases, responding to

    press inquiries, and proactively pitching stories.
    Ensure that all communications are factually correct, researched, and sourced by credible, evidence-based sources.
    Send out any needed mass notifications through Everbridge/Nixle.
    Other duties as assigned.
    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES

    Office Suite (MS suite of options – Powerpoint, Excel, Word)
    ·

    Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator)
    ·

    Email marketing tools (Constant Contact)
    ·

    Experience developing strategy for, and posting on, social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, Nextdoor.
    ·

    Experience with Google Workspace (Gmail, Docs, Slides, Sheets)
    ·

    Excellent communication abilities, writing, editing, and proofreading skills, and a firm command of grammar are required.
    ·

    Strong organizational, project management, and time management skills and experience.
    ·

    Proactive self-starter with integrity, a strong work ethic, and sound judgment.
    ·

    A positive attitude and commitment to working as a team player in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
    ·

    Competency in Spanish and/or Mandarin is a plus.
    ·

    Experience with data visualization is a plus .

    MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
    ·

    Minimum of 3–5 years of relevant work experience in a professional environment.
    ·

    Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, journalism, English, or related field a plus.
    ·

    Minimum of 5-7 years of relevant work experience in a professional environment.
    ·

    Familiarity with the Princeton, NJ community is a plus, as is M. Municipal or other government experience.
    ·

    The employee assigned to this position has regular access to highly confidential information. The employee, therefore, must possess a marked ability to maintain the confidentiality of such information. Maturity in decision making and strong organizational skills are also essential.
    ·

    Must satisfy employer paid physical, drug screen and criminal background check.
    ·

    NJ residency required by N.J.S.A.

    ·

    Pursuant to Federal Law, proof of US Citizenship or immigration status will be required upon hire.
    The salary range for this position is between $80,000 - $100,000 commensurate with experience.
