Communication Manager (Hybrid) School of Medicine, Stanford, California, United States Communications Mar 11, 2024 Post Date 102521 Requisition #The Department of Neurosurgery at the Stanford University, School of Medicine is seeking a Communications Manager (Public Relations Officer 2) to lead, coordinate, and implement communication programs for the department. This key role will partner with department leadership to develop and refresh communication strategies both externally and internally through print communications, web and digital communications/media, in addition to coordinate media relations programs and efforts. The Communications Manager will provide critical strategic oversight with the goal of increasing the Department of Neurosurgery's national and international visibility, positioning it as a leader in clinical practice, basic science, translational and clinical research. The position will report directly to the Administrative Manager for the Chair's Office and will maintain routine interaction with the Department Chair.The successful candidate will be able to develop strong working relationships with communication partners and constituents in the broader Stanford Medicine, including the School of Medicine, Stanford Healthcare, and Stanford Children's Health. The role is expected to be front facing and visible to external constituents, faculty and staff, and expected to integrate into the department community and culture. The position will supervise one staff resource to support the department's current and future communication efforts.Duties include:
- Formulate and execute strategic plan for external and internal communications.Provide public relations support for audiences that are both internal and external to the university.Plan and execute activities to support public relations objectives.Develop, execute and oversee written communications of moderate complexity, including presentations, speeches, news stories, web content, talking points, and correspondence and social media posts.Build and maintain relationships with internal and external partners.Participate in regular meetings of key researchers with media relations needs to develop strategies and tactics for facilitating effective communications.Identify and maintain professional relationships with key press, policy influencers and community leaders.Prepare content for internal or external newsletters. Understand email and digital content distribution.Assist in developing strategies for brand managements, reputation management and issues management of moderate complexity.Assist with the design and implementation of effective constituent communications programs and social media strategies.Serve as a project leader for public relations activities of small to moderate complexity.
- Excellent written communication skills, reporting skills, and advanced skills in conceptual editing, copy editing, and proof reading.Ability to work collaboratively with internal communications groups across campus. Demonstrated interpersonal skills in working with a variety of people.Capacity to write and synthesize materials and communicate information in a manner easily understood.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:
- Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.Frequently stand/walk, sit, use a telephone, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, speaking.Occasionally grasp forcefully, writing by hand. Rarely sort/file paperwork.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Occasional work on evenings and weekends.On call and ability to respond 24/7.
