    Description

    The Senior Engineer of Compliance is responsible for the administration, analysis, development and oversight of internal programs and processes to ensure compliance with the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) and Midwest Reliability Organization (MRO) Reliability Standards, policies and procedures. This position ensures that the client operates the transmission system reliably and in compliance with all applicable NERC regulations and standards.

    Position Specific Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

    NERC Compliance Program Administration and Development

    Lead in the development, implementation and revision of cross functional compliance procedures and documentation practices.

    Participate in the development and implementation of compliance awareness training programs.

    Lead the departmental review of developing Midwest Reliability Organization and NERC reliability standards. Monitor all deadlines for deliverables; facilitate subject matter expert involvement and execution; develop and execute plans to implement new compliance responsibilities as they arise.

    NERC Auditing Administration

    Create and manage client's NERC Standards compliance framework and program to ensure that compliance activities are completed in a timely manner including, but not limited to, self-certifications, spot checks, on-site audits, mock audits, mitigation plans, recovery plans, incident responses, etc. Ensure that the framework is consistent with internal/external audit and regulatory requirements.

    Develop strong business relationships that result in cohesive technical solutions to meet NERC Standards. Participate in cross functional teams to facilitate technical solutions, process improvements.

    Provide support and understanding of the needs and key drivers within each functional area impacted by NERC standards and associated requirements. Prepare program and portfolio level reporting to communicate status, risks, etc. to key stakeholders.

    NERC Compliance Program Oversight

    Monitor the progress and direction of the industry in relation to NERC Compliance and how it impacts the company.

    Serve on regional committees to ensure that regional changes are favorable to client's operations and finances.

    Serve as project manager for other special projects that may arise with regards to electric reliability compliance or as assigned by the Compliance Manager

    NERC Compliance Program Analysis

    Conduct departmental self-assessments to identify areas for improvement and any potential areas of non-compliance. Develop and execute mitigation plans in a timely manner.

    Assess and apprise client Management and functional teams of any potential regulatory risks associated with emerging requirements or existing compliance requirements.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Required:

    Four (4) year Bachelor of Science Engineering or related degree (ABET – accredited degree)

    Five (5) years of electric industry experience in engineering, operations or compliance (Master's degree may be considered for up to two (2) years of experience).

    Professional Engineer's (PE) License, NERC or other relevant industry-level education / certification

    Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the utility industry and power generation

    A valid driver's license

    Acquire and maintain NERC Access to client applicable facilities

    Desired:

    Knowledgeable of the Federal rule making processes

    Four (4) years of experience with NERC Compliance

    Master's Degree

    Excellent written and verbal communications skills

    Demonstrated leadership of cross functional teams
