- The Senior Director of Design & Engineering is responsible for overseeing various design-related activities for data center projects, including new constructions, phased expansions, retrofits, upgrades, and acquisition conversions. This role requires a skilled professional capable of interdisciplinary decision-making.
- Direct and manage the engineering design process, collaborating with architects, engineers, and equipment suppliers to ensure quality, efficiency, and adherence to company standards.
- Provide expert analysis on engineering documents, such as reports, specifications, and design plans, ensuring they meet project requirements.
- Stay updated on advancements in power and cooling technologies, particularly liquid cooling, and participate in industry events.
- Support the management of design partner and supplier relationships, ensuring outputs meet company standards.
- Work closely with various teams to ensure seamless integration of design and operational needs.
- Develop strong vendor relationships to achieve cost-effective project solutions.
- Communicate project statuses to stakeholders and propose innovative solutions in design meetings.
- Review and manage consultant invoices, mentor team members, and foster a culture of continuous learning.
- Contribute to the development of design and engineering best practices and integrate standards into operations.
- Identify process improvements and cost-saving opportunities, implementing solutions as needed.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in data center design focusing on large-scale projects.
- Strong analytical and decision-making skills to handle complex challenges and prioritize tasks.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, BIM, and DCIM.
- Effective leadership skills with a history of leading teams and projects successfully.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license and Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred.
- Ability to travel approximately 15% for project oversight and partner engagement.
- Demonstrated experience in managing various data center infrastructure projects, including advanced cooling systems.
- Proven track record of delivering projects on schedule and within budget, understanding design-build processes.
