    Project Overview

    Bechtel is designing, constructing, and commissioning the world's largest radioactive waste treatment plant for the U.S. Department of Energy at the Hanford Site in southeastern Washington state.

    The Hanford Tank Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant will use vitrification technology to process and solidify 56 million gallons (210 million liters) of radioactive and chemical waste stored at the Hanford site, which is a byproduct of plutonium production during World War II and the Cold War era.

    The project is the largest undertaking of its kind and one of DOE's most technically challenging cleanup projects.

    Its construction spans 65 acres (26 hectares) with four major nuclear facilities - Pretreatment, Low-Activity Waste Vitrification, High-Level Waste Vitrification and Analytical Laboratory - as well as operations and maintenance buildings, utilities, other support facilities.

    The Waste Treatment Completion Company (WTCC) is a limited liability corporation created by Bechtel National Inc. (BNI) and Amentum.

    WTCC is a subcontractor to BNI, the prime contractor, to deliver the construction, turnover, startup, and commissioning activities for the WTP project.


    This position is located at the Construction Site (22 miles north of Richland) and works a 4 x 10 schedule, M-Th, 6:30 a.m.

    to 5 p.m. Selected applicant needs to be willing to work overtime and weekends as needed.

    Position Summary


    The High-Level Waste (HLW) Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Case Management Specialist performs a combination of duties necessary to achieve an accident-free environment and ensure compliance with OSHA and Department of the Energy (DOE) requirements.

    The HLW OSHA Case Management Specialist will review occupational injury and illness information for workers assigned to the HLW (which is currently under construction) and will work with Industrial Safety and Industrial Hygiene Professionals and the Occupational Medical Subcontractor to ensure compliance with applicable portions of 29 CFR 1904, DOE Order 231.1B, and Bechtel Core Processes 105 and 108.


    The HLW OSHA Case Management Specialist will also review medical documentation and maintain medical records with privacy protection and confidentiality as required by law.

    In addition, this position will develop informal training, job aids, or other program documents and processes as required to ensure that employees are knowledgeable and trained in all safety policies or programs pertaining to workplace injury/illness case management.

    The individual will assist with conducting formal investigations of injuries and programmatic self-assessments identify improvement opportunities and lessons learned.

    The HLW OSHA Case Management Specialist will also enter data into corporate and Federal injury/illness databases, ensuring accuracy of required workplace injury/illness data.

    Responsibilities


    • Assist the OSHA Case Manager with investigating and dispositioning work-related injuries and illnesses.
    • Use Microsoft applications and databases to generate reports.
    • Review incoming incidents and place information into the IRIS database.
    • Review cases that meet the OSHA recordkeeping threshold for reporting and present cases with recommendation to ES&H manager for review and comment.
    • Review claims for eligibility.
    • Enter cases into the CAIRS database.
    • Communicate with ES&H staff members to provide updates to case severity changes.
    • Communicate with the Occupational Medical staff on cases.
    • Communicate with off-site medical providers on cases.
    • Maintain illness and injury records in accordance with privacy protection best practices.
    • Maintain confidentiality and privacy protections while handling protected health information.
    • Maintain updated records and prepares required reports.
    Qualifications and Skills

    Basic Qualifications

    Level 1


    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.
    • In lieu of a degree, 6+ years of related professional experience with high School Diploma or equivalent.
    • Related experience includes, but is not limited to, researching, writing, editing, and formatting documents. Ensuring clarity and consistency in logic, structure, requirements, and format which includes substantive editing and comprehensive understanding of grammatical rules and style, and ability to maintain a consistent tone.
    Level 2


    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university and 1 year of related,
    • In lieu of degree, 7+ years of related professional experience or high School Diploma or equivalent.
    • Related experience includes, but is not limited to, researching, writing, editing, and formatting documents. Ensuring clarity and consistency in logic, structure, requirements, and format which includes substantive editing and comprehensive understanding of grammatical rules and style, and ability to maintain a consistent tone.
    Minimum Qualifications


    • Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment physical, drug screen, and background check which includes verification of employment and education.
    • Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford Site.
    • Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
    • Ability to plan and coordinate tasks, work autonomously and complete work productively with attention to detail.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
    • Excellent organizational skills
    • Effective interpersonal skills in communication with customers, co-workers, and supervisors.
    • Technical writing and editing skills normally acquired through specialized education/training in English, technical communications, or journalism.
    • Proficiency with standard document formatting/editing/production software, including electronic comment incorporation, importing graphic files, formatting tables, and developing and applying templates.
    • Online editing/proofreading skills.
    • Technical vocabularies and terminology common to the assignment.
    • Must be able to perform multiple tasks while meeting deadlines.
    Preferred Qualifications


    • Possess the right to work and remain in the US without sponsorship.
    • Previous OSHA Recordkeeping experience
    • Previous experience as a Safety and Health Professional (CHST/OHST)
    • Previous experience in incident investigation
    • Knowledge of Bechtel's Zero Accident Safety Program and familiar with current industry standards.
    • Ability to work in a team-based environment, knowledge of project specific requirements, general awareness of processes and procedures and familiarity with current industry quality standards.
    • Ability to independently anticipate problems in an environment of rapidly changing priorities.
    • Understanding of operation of Bechtel standard computerized systems and other information transmission and records applications.
    • Continually demonstrates sustained commitment to Bechtel's "Zero Accidents" policy and support for Bechtel's safety program through personal safe behavior/work practices, following all safety rules and procedures and reporting unsafe work practices/situations.
    • Positive attitude and dedicated on-time work schedule.
    • Experience using relational databases and data analysis software (e.g., IBM Rational DOORS, PowerBi)
