About the College:
About the Department:
Position:
The department of Chicana/o Studies at California State University, Northridge (CSUN) is seeking a tenure-track faculty member in Chicana/o Studies at the rank of Assistant Professor.
Specifically, the Department seeks candidates whose specialization is in Education. We seek candidates who have an active record working with and/or conducting research on culturally and linguistically diverse student populations, such as in K–12 schools with large Chicana/o/Latina/o/Indigenous/ immigrant enrollments. Candidates will have a record of teaching in K–12 educational settings, with at least three years of experience in K–12 classrooms. We seek candidates who approach teaching, scholarship, and research through an interdisciplinary and intersectional lens, with a critical ethnic studies approach/perspective.
The successful candidate will teach Chicana/o/Latina/o/Indigenous education courses, including undergraduate and graduate courses on the Chicana/o/Latina/o child and adolescent; equity and diversity; heritage language; language acquisition and learning; educational theories in schooling; as well as education courses in the Chicana/os Studies Social Science Subject Matter Program, Ethnic Studies Certificate-Chicana/o Studies program, and the Chicana/o Studies MA Program.
In addition to teaching, the position requires weekly office hours, attending faculty meetings, participation in assessment of student learning, and service to the department, college, and university. The successful candidate will be held to the standards and requirements of the college and department in which he/she/they is/are housed for recommending tenure and promotion. Given CSUN's commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and engagement in a diverse environment, the successful candidate will help the Department achieve equitable academic outcomes for all students through teaching, student mentorship, scholarship, and service.
Required Qualifications:

Faculty success at CSUN is measured by three criteria: teaching effectiveness; contributions to one's field of study; and service to the University and Community. The standard teaching assignment is 12 units (4 courses per semester). However, new faculty members in their first two years teach 9 units per semester (3 courses). Successful candidates should be able to teach courses offered by the Chicana/o Studies Department. Faculty members are encouraged to develop new courses as needed by the Department.
Peer-reviewed publications are important for tenure and promotion, and CSUN faculty members can apply for competitive awards that provide course releases for research or fund travel for research. Presentations at academic conferences are supported with annual travel funds. Tenure-track faculty members participate in shared governance, usually in Program, College, and University committees and other service assignments.
