    The APA-accredited Clinical Psychology PsyD Program in the California School of Professional Psychology (CSPP) at Alliant International University-Los Angeles invites applications for one full-time core faculty appointment in clinical or counseling psychology at the Assistant Professor rank.


    The program offers three emphasis areas:
    Clinical Health Psychology (HEALTH), Family/Child and Couple Clinical Psychology (FACE), and Multicultural Community-Clinical Psychology (MCCP). It also offers a Multi-Interest Option (MIO) for faculty and students who choose not to join an emphasis area.


    We are seeking candidates from diverse backgrounds with clinical research and professional practice expertise to provide doctoral-level instruction and dissertation mentoring in these above emphasis areas and/or the Multi-Interest Option, as well as in core areas of discipline-specific knowledge and profession-wide competency.

    While other courses may become available, we are particularly interested in applicants whose educational background and/or professional experiences qualify them to teach the following doctoral-level courses:


    • Child and Adolescent Interventions
    • Intellectual and Personality Assessment
    • Consultation and Supervision
    • Professional Roles of Psychologists
    • Law and Ethics
    • Biological Bases of Behavior
    • Human Development
    • Social Bases of Behavior
    • Statistics and Research Design


    The position requires participation in Clinical Dissertations as Chair and/or Committee Member, which our faculty find to be one of the most rewarding aspects of their work with graduate students.

    The position also allows for teaching electives in the candidate's area of expertise.

    Areas of special interest to the program are child and family psychology, neuropsychology, sports psychology, forensic psychology, substance use treatment, and diversity related topics that help prepare students for working with underserved populations.

    Ability to teach clinical topics that help improve the wellbeing of diverse populations and that are well- grounded in research and other evidence-based literature is expected for candidates interested in teaching electives.

    Ability to integrate clinical expertise into teaching and scholarship is highly desirable. These positions allow for collaboration with faculty across emphasis areas, clinical programs, and all campuses in the Alliant system.

    $72,000


    Duties & Responsibilities:
    Faculty Activities/Responsibilities

    • Class curriculum coordination and planning
    • Assessment and evaluation of learners
    • Student selection, orientation, and assessment
    • Mentoring and advising of students
    • Field placement supervision and coordination
    • Research/scholarship mentoring and supervision, particularly of PhD dissertations
    • Scholarship - Scholarship/ research reflecting the generation, integration, dissemination and application of knowledge, as well as creative and original contributions to one's field commensurate with academic rank.
    • Service - All faculty engage in service to the University, Community and Profession commensurate with academic rank.

    • Duties Required of All Faculty - Certain duties are additionally required of all faculty and are not given formal workload credit but will be included in yearly evaluations.

    These include but are not limited to:

    • Active participation in campus life to sustain a high level of facilitated learning;
    • Participation in program governance, including program-based committees, with the exception of SERC which may receive up to three units of service workload credit at the discretion of the Program Director and the approval of the Dean and the Provost/VPAA;
    • Active participation in program and campus activities (including scheduled and impromptu meetings of faculty, staff, and students);
    • Picking up and promptly responding to paper, voice and electronic mail and messages;
    • Visibility and accessibility supporting a sense of community;
    • Regular accessibility either by person, by telephone and/or virtually to students, colleagues and the greater University community;
    • Posting of teaching schedules, office hours, and procedures for making appointments on the faculty member's door, online and on syllabi;
    • Attendance and participation in program, department, faculty and Faculty Assembly meetings;
    • Responding in a timely fashion to students' requests for meetings, to telephone calls, and to e-mail communications;
    • Participating in Faculty Assembly and program faculty meetings;
    • Carrying an advising load of up to fourteen students (depending on size of the program and the judgment of the Program Director);
    • Participation in hiring faculty;
    • Participation in developing, revising and coordinating curriculum and maintaining program vitality;
    • Participation in processes to improve quality of school/college, campus and University faculty experience; and
    • Participation in, selection, admission and retention of new students, including attendance at admissions open houses, participating in admission interviews, new student orientation, and advising of students.
    • Submittal of grades, attendance, syllabi, and textbook orders in compliance with University established procedures and deadlines.
    • Perform other related tasks, duties and responsibilities as required, assigned or directed.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Education: Candidates must hold a PsyD or PhD degree in clinical or counseling psychology from an APA-accredited institution.
    • Experience: Exemplary clinical training background and commitment to training doctoral-level clinicians in an APA accredited program; commitment to educating and training a diverse student body and to infusing diversity-related content into their teaching.

    It is preferred that the candidate have:
    (a) completion of an APA-accredited internship, (b) experience teaching and supervising dissertation research, (c) clinical and/or research expertise in mental health issues impacting oppressed populations such as ethnic/racial minorities, immigrants and other international groups, LGBTQ communities, and/or persons with disabilities, and (d) familiarity with APA accreditation requirements.

    • Certifications, Licenses, etc: California licensure or California license eligibility as a psychologist (if not licensed, candidates must have a plan for completing post-doctoral hours required for licensure before starting the position; licensure must be obtained within three (3) years of hire).

    PROGRAM/SCHOOL DESCRIPTION


    CSPP offers APA-accredited doctoral programs (PsyD and PhD) in Clinical Psychology at five campuses in California, COAMFTE-accredited master's and doctoral programs in Marital and Family Therapy at four campuses in California, and a national postdoctoral master's program in psychopharmacology.

    CSPP's mission is to provide the highest quality education, training, research and service in professional psychology and related human service fields.

    We seek to redefine excellence in scholarship via models of applied clinical research that provide a solid framework to understand and address problems of contemporary life.


    The Los Angeles Clinical Psychology PsyD program has been continuously accredited by APA since 1991 and is housed within the California School of Professional Psychology (CSPP), which endorses professional practice and competency-based training models.

    The program provides a strong generalist foundation in clinical health service psychology, emphasizing the applications of theory and research to evidence-based practice within a multicultural society.

    Training across multiple domains includes the ethical values and orientation of the professional psychologist; the psychological, biological, sociocultural, and systemic factors that influence human behavior, and population-based intervention strategies from a variety of theoretical frameworks.


    The Los Angeles Clinical Psychology PsyD Program campus is located approximately 8 miles east of Downtown Los Angeles, in the city of Alhambra, embedded in a vibrant metropolitan area that is rich in culture and has wonderful weather year-round.

    Faculty interested in working with diverse communities find Los Angeles an ideal place for pursing their professional goals and to establish their career.

    Many maintain a small clinical or consulting practice while working for the PsyD program, which allows them to remain engaged in the provision of direct services to clinical and/or consulting clients while holding an academic appointment.

    Faculty are expected to teach, chair dissertations, and participate in program activities during the Fall and Spring terms but have Summers off.

    They receive an annual stipend for their own professional development and can also apply for grants from the university for innovative programs or research they want to develop.

    All new hires begin contract with a seed grant to help start a new line of research.

    There is also opportunity for tuition waiver for Alliant courses leading to a degree or certificate for the employee, their children, and their spouse/partner.
