    Job Description:

    About the Position:
    The Special Education Process Coordinator oversees special education processes and procedures in the school for kindergarten through eighth grade. The Special Education Process Coordinator reports directly to the Director of Special Services.


    Key Responsibilities:

    • Coordinate the special education process to ensure appropriate identification and placement of students with disabilities and compliance with state and federal requirements for the implementation of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)
    • Adhere to and ensure compliance with KCIA Special Education Deskbook and all Compliance Timelines
    • Referral Procedures
    • IEP Procedures
    • Reevaluation Procedure
    • Other procedures, as needed (e.g., Discipline, ESY Eligibility, Homebound, Transfer Student, etc.)
    • Maintain regular communication with the Director of Special Services, district administrators, building administrators and special education team members
    • Lead special education (Resource) team meetings
    • Attend IEP meetings, Review of Existing Data meetings, and Eligibility Determination meetings, as needed
    • Manage Transfer Procedure for incoming and outgoing special education transfer students
    • Conduct periodic special education file reviews to monitor teachers' adherence to procedural requirements and compliance
    • Monitor and maintain special education caseloads
    • Facilitate the Reevaluation Procedure, in conjunction with case managers
    • Coordinate the administration of cognitive, autism, and other specialty assessments
    • Administer individual assessments in the areas of academic, social/emotional, and adaptive functioning
    • Assist in the coordination of professional development activities and conduct training for special education and regular education teachers, as needed
    • Facilitate special education Discipline Procedure, in conjunction with case managers and administrators
    • Participate in professional development activities to stay current with trends, requirements and special education legal and procedural developments
    • Perform other duties as requested by the Board of Education, Superintendent, District Administrators
    • Performs other duties as requested by the Director of Special Services
    • Qualifications:
    • Special Education Certification in at least one area
    • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Education
    • At least 2 years teaching experience in the special education setting
    • Experience administering individual standardized achievement assessments in the areas of academic and social-emotional adaptive functioning skills (preferred)
    • Completion of coursework related to assessment, evaluation, and parent conferences
    • Knowledge of the special education process
