Position Summary: The Medical Assistant will be responsible for a variety of front and back office clerical duties to support the Pulmonary Hypertension Clinic. This includes collecting patient data, obtaining medical histories, preparing instruments for sterilization and scheduling appointments. The successful candidate will adhere to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures and work with patients of all ages.

Detailed responsibilities:

Collect patient data and medical history
Prepare instruments for sterilization
Schedule appointments and verify medical coverage
Perform basic cashiering duties
Assist in preparation of patient care
Perform routine non-invasive treatment procedures including phlebotomy and EKG's
Maintain a sanitary work environment
Administer medication according to the UNMH MA Safe Med Admin Course

Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
Graduation from MA accredited program or two years of MA experience on DD Form 214
UNMH MA Safe Med Admin Course Completion within 90 Days
CPR Certification for Healthcare/BLS or Professional Rescuers within 30 days of hire
CMA, RMA, AMT, AAMA, NRCMA, or CCMA Certification
Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred

Physical Conditions:

Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects or people

Working Conditions:

Significant hazard: Chemicals, bio-hazardous materials requiring PPE
May be required to travel to various work sites
May be required to rotate work shifts
Limited access to med room according to Med Admin Policy, Att A
