- Provides asset management and support of surgical instruments and tray belonging to or consigned to the facility, in accordance with the Department of Health, TJC, OSHA, CDC, AAMI and AORN standards.
- Properly handles, decontaminates, assembles, sterilizes and returns for use all instrumentation in accordance with the above organizational standards.
- Works with Clinical Coordinators to maintain preference cards and lean multiple specialty instrumentation.
- Point of contact for OR staff or in room assistance and instrumentation needs.
- Accurate and timely reporting of shift details to incoming shift staff and Lead Technician.
- Performs inventory replacement procedures, transports instrumentation to OR as needed.
- Supports daily operations of any activities that pertain to the processing of reusable instrumentation.
- Communicates with SPD staff and OR staff to ascertain that pre-case needs are met, resolve any outstanding issues and offer alternatives if necessary.
- Reporting of broken instrumentation, and vital communication with team leadership and/or Manager.
- Demonstrates consistent success in working, communicating with, and mentoring diverse staff.
- Communicates in a professional manner to all staff and facility employees
- Demonstrates extensive knowledge of instrumentation in multiple specialty areas.
- Completes documentation for inventory and equipment service requests.
- Regularly meets with OR staff and surgeons to ensure needs are being met and prioritized.
- Verifies availability of instrumentation for next day cases and weekend cases
- Other duties as assigned
- Attend daily OR huddles
- Current Central Service Technician certification with IAHCSMM or CBSPD or Surgical Technician certification with the State of Colorado required. Central Service Technician certification completion within one year for Surgical Technician
- Associates Degree or equivalent from a 2yr technical school required
- 2+ years of instrument processing with competency in all areas: Orthopedics, Cardiovascular, Neuro, GYN, Plastics, Robotics. Also, the ability to think critically with an eye for detail and best outcomes that generate patient safety to the highest quality.
- Medical terminology and familiarity with surgical instrumentation.
- Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
