    ABOUT THE JOB


    The Mechanical Project Design Engineer plays an important role in project teams responsible for performing pre-studies, RFE studies, and project studies/project implementations of strategic important projects at the SSAB facility in Mobile, Alabama.

    Projects can span from equipment upgrades to infrastructure projects, both greenfield projects as well as revamping and development of existing equipment.

    Depending on experience, the Mechanical Project Design Engineer can either be responsible or co-responsible for the mechanical aspects from idea to installation and production takeover.


    WHAT YOU WILL DO


    Participate in and drive pre studies, RFE studies and projects (planning, execution, and commissioning) with focus on all the mechanical aspects of the studiesWork closely with the ordering/receiving parties (Production department for example)Work closely with other team members, including for example Electrical and Civil Engineers, Project Managers, Process Development Engineers, Purchasing Department and FinanceWork closely with Maintenance (for planning of spare parts, repairs and safe access to equipment etc.)

    Collaborate with supporting resources from the QTC center in Oxelösund, Sweden (for example Electrical, Automation, Civil and Mechanical Engineers)Interact and coordinate with external consultantsHelp define project scope, goals, and deliverables in support of business goalsHelp implement project plans, including timelines, budgets, and resource allocationHelp manage project risks and develop contingency plans as neededHelp monitor project progress and ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and meet technical specifications and quality standardsEnsure compliance with mechanical engineering, regulatory, and company standardsDevelop and maintain positive working relationships with cross-functional teams


    QUALIFICATIONS

    Required:
    B.S. degree in a technical discipline or equivalent experienceKnowledge of project management methodologies, tools, and techniquesPrior experience working in project-based settingsSkilled in working with drawing programs (CAD, SolidWorks or similar software)Skilled in creating and reading layouts (understanding of mechanical and mechanical drawings, layouts and schematics)Experience working in cross-functional teamsStrong written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skillsPrior experience (or a strong willingness) to work in multicultural teamsAbility to prioritize and work on multiple tasks simultaneouslyExcellent problem-solving and decision-making abilitiesWillingness to contribute ideas and actively listen to othersAbility to be well-organized, efficient, and work without close supervisionStrong attention to detail and a focus on qualityExcellent computer skills (MS Office Suite)Strong commitment to safety and ability to participate in a safety-oriented work culture
