    Description

    Job Description

    Job Description

Since 1984, Share Our Strength has led the fight against hunger and poverty by inspiring and organizing individuals and businesses to share their strengths. Today, through the No Kid Hungry campaign, Share Our Strength is ending childhood hunger in America by ensuring all children get the healthy food they need. No child should go hungry in America – we're on our way to making that a reality and we want you to join us. We're bold, creative, always open to new ideas, and 100% dedicated to our mission. If that sounds like you, we'd like you to consider becoming part of our team.

The Senior Manager will be responsible for gathering lessons learned, identifying best and promising practices, and providing technical assistance related to expanding access to and participation in federally funded summer meal programs, with an emphasis on rural non-congregate meal service. This individual will also be primarily responsible for creating resources (e.g., toolkits, 1-pagers, case studies), hosting webinars, and leading training on the topic of summer meals. Additionally, they will provide technical assistance and support to colleagues, program sponsors/operators, partners, and state agency staff. The Senior Manager will continually identify and share best and promising practices that incorporate the perspectives of program participants and sponsors/operators and draw upon insights from research and federal and state administrators.

This position can be based in Washington, DC (hybrid 2 days in the office); but could be fully remote for the right candidate living outside of the DC area 30 miles or more. The position offers a range of $80,000 to $87,000. Exact compensation within the stated salary range may vary based on skills, experience, internal equity, and geographical location.

    DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Provide subject matter expertise related to the federally-funded summer meal programs– Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) and the National School Lunch Program Seamless Summer Option (SSO). Foundational knowledge of Summer EBT is a plus, but not required.
    • Serve as the Center for Best Practices team lead on the development of the organization's summer strategy and cross-team alignment specific to summer meals and our goal of expanding rural non-congregate meal service. This may include leading or serving on internal and/or external workgroups on an as-needed basis.
    • Lead planning for the Summer Nutrition Summit, an in-person convening that brings together a variety of stakeholders– including state agency staff, national partners, sponsors, and USDA staff– to engage in constructive conversation and ideate solutions around the effective administration and implementation of summer nutrition programs with a focus on rural non-congregate summer meals and Summer EBT.
    • Lead the conception, development, and dissemination of resources to facilitate the sharing of best practices and skill-building on summer meals, particularly non-congregate service models. This may include but is not limited to toolkits, implementation guides, case studies, and webinars.
    • Provide strategic guidance, thought partnership, and technical assistance to No Kid Hungry state campaigns working to expand access to rural non-congregate meals. This may include participating in planning meetings, leading training, and joining coalition/partner calls.
    • Gather learnings from the field, including insight from program participants, sponsors/operators, and state agency staff, to identify best and promising practices for expanding program access and improving program quality. Special focus should be on successful program models and the needs of communities of color and those experiencing persistent poverty.
    • Partner with colleagues to support Share Our Strength's work to be a diverse and inclusive organization, and ensure this value is embedded in the organization and throughout our work.
    • Stay up to date on the federal child nutrition landscape through internal and external relationships, especially with USDA, state agencies, and other national anti-hunger and poverty organizations.
    • Contribute to the Center for Best Practices' website, newsletter, and other communication tools.

    SUPERVISION

    • This position has no supervisory responsibilities, with the exception of a potential intern or consultant

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    • Normal office work environment with less than 15% travel.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor's degree in public health, nutrition education, dietetics, public policy, or related field preferred but not required.
    • At least 5-7 years of work experience, with a focus on child hunger and federally funded child nutrition programs, with preferred subject matter expertise related to the summer meal programs (SFSP and SSO).
    • Experience providing high-quality education and training, technical assistance, strategic planning, or consulting services to non-profit organizations, child nutrition program staff, state agencies, and/or schools/districts.
    • Experience with summer meal program operations and policy is strongly preferred. Foundational knowledge of Summer EBT is a plus but not required.
    • Excellent facilitation, listening, and communication skills (verbal and written), including experience presenting to high-level audiences and the ability to communicate complex or technical information in an easy-to-understand way.
    • Eagerness to collaborate and demonstrated ability to work independently and proactively in a fluid environment, lead projects (short- and long-term), meet multiple concurrent deadlines, and organize time and priorities.
    • Ability to cultivate and maintain relationships across stakeholder groups including non-profit organizations, government agencies, and schools/districts.
    • Outstanding interpersonal and relationship-building skills, including the ability to identify and work through challenges, underscored by strong judgment and emotional intelligence.
    • Demonstrated passion for our mission and interest in helping us advance equity and inclusion within and beyond the organization.
    • Experience planning large-scale, in-person events is preferred but not required.
