    Description

    Position Focus:

    Yale College Student Life seeks an Assistant Director to join the office as a program development and outreach staff member. This person will assist the Student Engagement area of the Deans Office with its efforts to support the intersection of identities students bring to Yale College. The Assistant Director will work closely with the university's FGLI community, campus cultural centers, and emerging cultural communities with a focus on the intersections of identity and intercultural engagement.

    Overview of Responsibilities: The Assistant Director will work with the Senior Associate Dean for Student Engagement and members of the Student Engagement team on intercultural engagement. This will involve the oversight of the FGLI Community Initiative, partnerships and programming with the staff of the university campus centers (including the Native American Cultural Center, Asian American Cultural center, La Casa Cultural, the Afro American Cultural Center, the LGBTRC and the Chaplain's Office). The Assistant Director will assist in the planning and execution of Student Life and university programs, such Family Weekend, Yale-Harvard weekend, MLK programming, cultural heritage month program, Yale SafetyNet, and the Office for Educational Opportunity.

    Essential Duties: Coordinate the FGLI Community initiative – program and community hub for students who are identified as limited income or first in their family to attend college. Supervise the FGLI Student Ambassadors – (7) undergraduate students. Yale Safety-Net emergency funding approver and administrative team. Participates in planning university programs and special events Family Weekend, Yale-Harvard weekend, Orientation/Camp Yale programs. Develop and maintain internal and external communications materials – newsletters, websites, social media. Provides project support to divisional/department leaders and actively develops appropriate external contacts and networks. Partner with university programs that support FGLI students and students of varying identities such as: FSY, STARS, ONEXYS, Poorvu Center's Academic Strategies and the Office for Educational Opportunity. Advise and support student organizations related to the FGLI student identity. Provides support to emerging communities within the student body. Writes and works with both confidential and non-confidential material. May perform other duties as assigned.

    Essential Duties

    1. Manages and leads research on various federal rules and regulations as well as University policies and procedures to resolve problems and determine the best course of action for the functional area. 2. Recommends course of action to higher authority for the handling and disposition of problems related to the functional area. 3. Counsels faculty, students and staff on issues related to administrative operations of the University function and areas of concern for the function. 4. Manages statistical and analytical information regarding office activities and areas of operational and administrative concern for the function. 5. Leads in long-range planning for the office activities of a specific functional area. 6. Interprets and administers various University and federal policies and regulations. 7. Disseminates accurate and up-to-date information regarding areas of concern. 8. Formulates and establishes policies regarding area's function. 9. Manages a staff of exempt and non-exempt employees. 10. May perform other duties as assigned.

    Required Education and Experience

    Minimum requirement of Bachelor's Degree in related field and three years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.

    Required Skill/Ability 1:

    High degree of organization and commitment to detail.

    Required Skill/Ability 2:

    High degree of comfort interacting with Yale College students, administrators and faculty.

    Required Skill/Ability 3:

    Strong writing and communications skills.

    Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:

    Master's Degree preferred. Familiarity with the educational culture of Yale College.
