- Provide strong leadership to the Kidney Walk at the Detroit Zoo and Kidney Golf Classic. Meet regularly with the Director of Development and at least quarterly with executive management (CEO and CEO Emeritus) to ensure high quality and financially successful events.
- Work year round to obtain an Honorary Chair that will help to raise significant funds for the Zoo Walk. Recognize the importance of Honorary Chairs to the Kidney Walks. Should be focused on potential Honorary Chairs 15 months prior to the walk. Discuss all Honorary Chairs with the Director of Development and executive management quarterly. Ensure that the 'right' person always goes on the 'ask' for potential Honorary Chairs, or to provide consultation.
- Oversee all event details of the assigned events. This requires excellent organization and planning skills.
- Provide regular updates on all event details, which includes timeline development, timeline implementation, materials, incentives, day of event details, etc. to the Director of Development and executive management.
- Develop a 12-month plan for each event and monitor progress against the plan. Report progress to the Director of Development and executive management quarterly.
- Assist with seeking statewide and local sponsors.
- Assist the Director of Development in relationship management of current sponsors, captains, and teams.
- Ensure data management of the walks by working with the Director of Development, executive management, and the data entry staff.
- Ensure that all Development staff are trained in Convio and other walk logistics to ensure success for the walk per the timeline.
- Ensure walk plans are communicated to all staff involved in our walk program on a regular basis.
- Ensure that walkers/captains/sponsors are receiving regular, year-round, communication based on a Kidney Walk plan.
- Work closely with the Communications Department to ensure maximum publicity surrounding each walk.
- Assist the Director of Development with other events as requested.
- Ensure fiscal accountability working closely with the NKFM Accounting Department and other staff to insure appropriate expenditures and budgeting for the walk and other assigned events.
- Work closely with the Communications Department on all written materials that come out of the Development Department, including the quarterly newsletters, two Annual Appeal letters each year, video needs for events as necessary and social media and online communications regarding the walk and golf outing.
- Maintain cooperative inter-staff relations and encourage teamwork among all staff and departments.
- Communicate effectively with volunteers, members of the community and other staff members to carry out the responsibilities of the job and to promote cooperation within and between these groups.
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
- 3-5 years of experience in non-profit special event fundraising.
- Ability to handle numerous and diverse tasks. Must be able to solve problems independently and follow through on responsibilities in a timely manner with minimal supervision.
- Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, video technology, email and calendar, and social media.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Is a hybrid position with a combination of an office environment, fieldwork, and the ability to work from home after an initial introductory period. Some evening and weekend work required to successfully implement responsibilities. Traveling within the state will be required.
- Physical requirements; light physical effort equal to lifting or moving of lightweight materials. Regularly required to sit or stand, bend and reach.

Description
Job DescriptionPrimary Work Functions
Under general supervision, plan, solicit sponsors/donors, organize staff/volunteers, promote, evaluate, and oversee the implementation of various special events. These events include the Kidney Walk at the Detroit Zoo, Kidney Golf Classic, and other events as they come up. In conjunction with the Director of Development, develop and strengthen partnerships with corporate entities, provide consultation to other staff on partnerships, team building, and overall event implementation. Ensure that all aspects of each event are appropriately taken care of, including the ordering of printed materials and incentives and other materials. Insure that thank you's are sent in a meaningful and timely manner by working closely with the various staff responsible. Other assignments include playing a supporting role in the annual Kidney Ball, coordinating portions of the Annual Appeal letters, serving as the Development liaison to the Communications Department, writing the quarterly newsletter, and other assignments that will be given by the Director of Development from time to time.

This is a significant leadership position in the organization, though not a management position. It is important when working as a specialist to provide an environment that embraces our guiding principles and encourages growth, opportunity, openness, and challenge.
