Job Summary
This position reports to the Department Chair and involves supporting all instructional laboratories within the Department.

Responsibilities include providing Academic Technology support for instructors, maintaining lecture demonstrations and instructional resources, managing computer and informational technology (IT) resources, and assisting with the implementation of University Policies related to safety, property, and facilities.


Key Responsibilities

  • Performs comprehensive support services for all instructional laboratories in the department; assists the operation of the Physics and Astronomy Issue Room.
  • Provides technical support and assistance to all teaching assistants (TAs) and faculty who are teaching instructional labs; maintains and supports the Academic Technology for the instructors including the lecture demonstrations and multimedia resources.
  • Assists to maintain the IT resources and the implementation of the University Policies for safety, property, and facility, etc.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities


Ability to plan, organize, and schedule his work in consultation with faculty; ability to operate, repair and maintain technical and scientific equipment in collaboration with faculty; ability to coordinate support and schedule to meet a comprehensive variety of laboratory needs; ability to categorize different instructional materials based on the topic.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Ability to self-instruct and a willingness to learn in order to acquire the necessary knowledge for performing all duties related to the position.

Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.

Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures.

Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student, and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence.

Education and Experience

  • Equivalent to three years of experience providing instructional support services for a related unit or discipline, or in producing materials or supplies or repairing equipment related to the discipline required.
  • Master's degree level preferred.
  • Experiences with physics instructional laboratory equipment, lecture demonstrations, and multimedia resources preferred.
  • Experiences with the Academic Technology including BeachBoard and online homework systems and the audio/visual equipment preferred.

Compensation

CSU Classification Salary Range:
The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $4,211 - $7,617 per month.

Time Base
1.0 time-base, 40 hours per week.


Duration of Appointment
This is a temporary position for 2 years with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.
