Essential Functions:


Working with and under the supervision of the Dean of Nursing and Allied Health, the full-time dental assisting faculty is responsible for planning and delivering didactic and clinical instruction to a diverse population of students, assessing academic performance and supporting student success.

In line with Accreditation Standards set forth by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA), the faculty member must be competent to deliver a broad scope of dental assisting practice and have documented expertise in their area(s) of teaching responsibility and knowledge of a variety of content delivery methods.


The full-time dental assisting faculty is responsible for collaborating with other dental assisting faculty as well as other health faculty to create intra-disciplinary and inter-disciplinary teaching and learning opportunities.

In addition to teaching, the Dental Assisting faculty will fulfill the duties of the program chair and program director for CODA, and provide advising and college service, in accordance with MCCC/MTA Collective Bargaining Agreement.


DUTIES:
Under the supervision of the Dean of the Nursing and Allied Health faculty will demonstrate excellence in the following areas:

PROGRAM FACULTY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as program chair and CODA program director for Dental Assisting
  • Teach and fulfill all contractual obligations as a member of the college faculty. Courses for the Dental Assistant program.
  • Participate in professional development activities and remain current in one's area of expertise.
  • Collaborate with the Dean of the Nursing and Allied Health by contributing expertise in the review and evaluation of faculty course materials.
  • Orient and mentor parttime dental assisting program faculty.
  • Develop and prepare program/department assessment (internal Academic Program Review and external accreditation) and accreditation materials.
  • Provide leadership in the systematic assessment of course and program learning outcomes.
  • Establish, maintain, and monitor program policies and procedures that support effective, responsive, high quality education.
  • Trend and analyze data on student retention, completion, employment, and success on national certification exam to the extent possible.
  • Provide guidance in the selection and ordering of textbooks for assigned program courses.
  • Collaborate with student support areas, (e.g. Tutoring, Enrollment, Testing, Advising), and other departments as needed.
  • Coordinate clinic and laboratory support, (i.e. personnel, equipment purchase and repair).
  • Engage in the delivery of patient simulation experiences as a learning methodology where appropriate in the dental assisting curriculum.
  • Participate in college recruitment activities, (e.g. open houses, K12 partnerships, visit high schools and industry) as appropriate.
  • Develop and implement grants for the program as appropriate.
  • Organize and develop student externships and coordinate with external agencies and dental practices.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve on college committees and task forces.
  • Serve on relevant search committees and college committees
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:


SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING REQUIRED:

  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree in dental sciences, education or related field
  • A Dental Assisting National Board "Certified Dental Assistant" certification from an accredited institution registered in Massachusetts as a Registered Dental Assistant (RDA)
  • Registered dental hygienist licensed in Massachusetts in good standing, and a graduate of dental hygiene program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) who holds Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) credential
  • Must have had instruction in educational theory and methodology, e.g., curriculum development, educational psychology, test construction, measurement and evaluation.
  • Recent dental assisting methodology courses.
  • Experience in clinical coordination.
  • OSHA compliance experience.
  • CODA accreditation process experience.
  • Minimum of three years of clinical practice

Preferred:


  • Two years of successful college teaching, preferably in a community college or technical college setting.

Term of appointment:
This is a full-time, tenure track position. Terms governed by MCCC/MTA Agreement.
