Position Summary:

Supports the GWH Transportation Department with the execution of all set runs in the outlet, store, and ADC operations. This position will lead transportation operations to ensure a safe and timely flow of donations to the appropriate destinations.

Responsible for overall strategy and management of GWH's logistic operation to ensure goods are transported efficiently, and cost-effectively, and optimize the process.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Leads, directs, and coaches assigned management and team members to maximize donor value, sales per labor hour, and expensetorevenue ratio for GWH.
  • Provide operational oversight and direction to achieve the objectives of the DGR Team.
  • Select, train, and develop team members to ensure safe and efficient operations as well as mission integration.
  • Plan and adjust a transportation staffing model to meet business needs.
  • Monitors GWH's Electronic Management System (Samsara) to ensure pretrip and posttrip inspections, driver routes are completed, Hours of Service, safety scores, etc. to ensure accidentfree driving and processing, and minimize insurance costs.
  • Efficient fleet operations in alignment with the United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) expectations where required and as a best practice across the fleet.
  • Follow up with transportation leadership and transportation drivers to ensure routes are completed timely.
  • Utilize linkages and routing system information to update routing schedules and manifests and make recommendations on improved routing and linkages for optimum donors per square foot and to meet operational needs.
  • Routine monitoring of thirdparty portal(s) to ensure fleet and vehicle maintenance are completed timely. Provide reports as needed.
  • Prepares and maintains required reports, and administrative tasks for personnel (established by Human Resources and Accounting), and paperwork required by the USDOT is completed/provided timely.
  • Monitor, assess, and document the performance of team members to make improvements and/or take corrective action.
  • Lead various initiatives for the Director of Operations and the VP of DGR related to the annual operating plan, development and implementation plans, team goals, and postmortems where applicable.
  • Provide feedback to the VP of DGR regarding safety, training, productivity, retention, service goals, and input during the budgeting process.
  • Directs and/or conducts audits of vehicles, routes, and salvage loads by utilizing data, direct observation, Samsara, video surveillance, and any other available means.
  • Inspects company vehicles to ensure a safe working environment and a good company image.
  • Direct preshift huddles to provide daily expectations, communicate relevant GWH policies and operating procedures, and ensure compliance with various regulatory agencies (DOT, OSHA, etc.).
  • Support in conducting weekly and monthly L10 meetings with transportation staff and drivers to recap operation, and safety performance, and to drive a positive culture.
  • Ensures that accidents, incidents, nearmiss reports, vehicle defects, traffic violations, or damage to vehicles are reported timely according to GWH policies.
  • Make datadriven recommendations to improve transportation operations and costsavings by monitoring and verifying company reports, driver pickup manifests, timecards, vehicle incident investigations, invoices/billing documentation, etc.
  • Must be able to shadow all direct reports and fill in as needed.
  • Must be accessible via cell phone consistently to receive and address transportation concerns.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management.
