    Job Description

    The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for an NSHE Specialist 1 for the Facilities Maintenance Services Department. This position is responsible for planning, organizing, and coordinating a wide variety of maintenance and repair projects.

    Duties include (but are not limited to):
    • Sort, organize, plan and coordinate maintenance and repair projects; this includes general projects plus concrete, asbestos abatement, painting, and flooring specialties;
    • Review daily work orders;
    • Determine scope of work;
    • Inspect sites;
    • Research and/or obtain labor and material estimated for in-house trade crew or contractor;
    • Review scope of work and cost estimates with client and obtain their approval;
    • Schedule work and ensure completion;
    • Determine compliance with the state and UNR building codes;
    • Follow up and resolve issues for non-compliance, incomplete or unsatisfactory work;
    • Coordinate property loss projects; prepare, collect and submit photos and documentation for claim;
    • Manage job cost accounting by setting up, tracking, coding costs, and closing out work orders;
    • Establish budgets;
    • Request purchase orders and create projects in the project management software;
    • Communicate with Dig USA as the primary contact and coordinator;
    • Work with trades and other university departments to ensure they meet deadlines;
    • Coordinate elevator maintenance contract;
    • Administrate the department Uniform program; and
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Required Qualifications
    • This position requires a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and one (1) year of relevant experience; OR
    • Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three (3) years of program support experience equivalent to an Administrative Assistant lll in Nevada State service which included applying complex laws and regulations, composing written materials and maintaining records; OR
    • An equivalent combination of education and experience as described above
    A valid Class "C" driver's license or higher operator's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.

    Physical Demands

    This position requires walking or standing to a significant degree and pushing and/or pulling; exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force to constantly move objects.

    This position requires the use of stairs and ladders, lifting objects up to 50 pounds; entering laboratories; conducting research on potentially hazardous materials; walking through snow and ice; visiting satellite campuses; entering confined and hazardous spaces; and exposure to hot and cold temperatures when working outside.

    This position requires the ability to see, hear, and communicate through speech.

    Preferred Qualifications
    • Candidates with project management experience or project management certification are encouraged to apply;
    • Candidates with project management or cost accounting software experience are encouraged to apply;
    • Candidates that have familiarity with building codes and general construction projects are encouraged to apply.
    Schedule

    The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm; this is subject to change based on organizational needs. This position may be able to elect an alternative work schedule.

    The successful candidate will participate in an on-call supervisor pool and would likely be on-call 1 to 2 weeks a year.

    This position is part of the Facilities Services Weather Essential Personnel and may be required to report to work for their regularly scheduled shift without any phone/cell phone notification; and is subject to a variable workweek schedule.

    This position is designated as Essential Personnel. In the event of a campus emergency, special event, closure to maintain campus safety or building operations, this position may be required to work outside of regularly scheduled hours.

    Compensation Grade

    Grade 31

    In classified service, salary is in Grade and Step. The Step is determined based on the Nevada Administrative Code. Salary placement above a Step 01 at initial appointment is determined based on the recruitment, the candidate's qualifications, internal equity and budgets. A request to accelerate salary must be approved by Human Resources and abide by the Nevada Administrative Code.
