- Responsible for electrical engineering design work on assigned projects
- Provide mentorship to other electrical engineers in the team
- Collaborate with Project Engineer and Project Manager on design schedules and budgets
- Conduct power system studies and system protection settings coordination
- Develop basis of design documentation for protection settings and relay configurations
- Support projects during construction, start-up, and commissioning phases
- Review engineering work by peers
- Participate in client meetings
- Travel occasionally to client or project sites for data gathering
- Mentor junior engineers and facilitate internal training sessions
- Lead engineer on projects of all sizes
- Senior technical resource and advisor for team
- Offer specialized technical input to studies and design
- Develop study and design procedures for efficient work execution
- Participate in project deliverables review
- Provide construction cost estimates and technical effort estimates
- Conduct quality control review of design calculations
- Prepare technical specification sections
- Contribute to the development of engineering budget and schedule
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university
- 6 years of relevant protection and controls experience
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license is mandatory
- Preferably 10 years of experience with a minimum of 2 years in a project lead role
- Knowledge of FERC and NERC requirements
- Proficiency in IEC61850
- Proven success in working with remote teams
- Experience in full EPC projects from initiation to completion
- Hands-on experience in plant startup and commissioning
- Expertise in power systems analysis software (SKM, EasyPower, Etap)
- Relay coordination using ASPEN OneLiner
- Experience in developing native relay setting files
- Background in distribution automation
- Experience in collaborative 3D model environments (e.g., Navisworks)

About the Job Opportunity
AECOM is currently seeking a skilled Protection and Controls Engineer to contribute to our expanding Energy Business Lines Engineering Center of Excellence involved in our Grid Modernization initiatives. In this role, you will be engaged in a variety of electrical engineering services spanning different market sectors, from transmission to renewable energy solutions. We are looking for an enthusiastic engineer with expertise in protection and controls to showcase our capabilities to potential clients and maintain our existing clientele.
