Job Title: Financial Controller

Position Overview:
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Controller will oversee all accounting and reporting activities for NEMA and the Electrical Safety Foundation (ESF). Responsibilities include supporting presentations to boards and committees, managing day-to-day accounting operations, supervising staff, and ensuring effective financial systems and procedures. The Controller will collaborate with departments to enhance finance and accounting support for operations.
The role is based in Arlington, VA and offers a hybrid work schedule.


Key Responsibilities:


Finance and Accounting Leadership
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain internal controls and safeguards for assets.
  • Coordinate financial audits and present reports.
  • Assist in budgeting and forecasting.
  • Manage grants accounting and investment performance.

Team Leadership
  • Maximize team strengths to reach organizational goals.
  • Strengthen internal communications and create a positive work environment.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.
  • CPA preferred.
  • MBA a plus.
  • Solid experience in audit activities, reporting, budget management, and grants accounting.
  • Experience in supporting 501c3 organizations and grants management.
  • Strong technology skills and commitment to team development.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
