GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Director exists to ensure the economic growth is aligned with the vision to create a robust and thriving economy in Pittsburg County.
The primary focus areas of this role are industrial recruitment, business retention and expansion, job creation, and increasing the tax base.
The Director will work closely with businesses, developers, investors, government agencies, and community groups to identify and promote economic development opportunities.
PRIMARY DUTIES:
Develop and implement strategies for industrial recruitment, business expansion, job creation, and increasing the tax base.
Ensures the development infrastructure necessary to encourage entrepreneurial growth and technology innovation to accelerate economic growth.
Identify and cultivate relationships with businesses, developers, government agencies, and community groups to promote economic development opportunities.
Provide support and assistance to businesses and developers seeking to locate or expand near McAlester.
Oversite at the management level of Tourism and McAlester Regional Airport, following personnel rules and regulations and supervisor's directives in order to ensure consistent achievement of goals and services.
Ensures the timely preparation of complete and accurate staff work for presentation to council, citizen committees, commissions and the City on retail, commercial, business retention, and expansion issues.
Work with local workforce development organizations to ensure a skilled workforce is available to support new and existing businesses.
Develop and manage an economic development budget, including grant writing and management.
Analyze economic and demographic data to identify trends and opportunities for economic development.
Coordinate and participate in community events to promote the municipality as an attractive location for businesses and residents.
Collaborates with other businesses, governmental entities, nonprofits, and educational institutions to achieve regional goals and objectives.
Serves as liaison to citizen committees and special interest groups.
Collaborate with local officials and community leaders to develop and implement economic development policies and initiatives with coordination from the City Manager.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Requires education or training equivalent to a bachelor's degree in economic development or related field. Master's degree preferred.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum of 5 years of experience in economic development, business development, or related field.
Experience in grant writing and management.
Knowledge of economic and demographic trends and analysis.
Ability to maintain confidential business communications to maintain trust.
Demonstrated ability to work in a team effectively with businesses, developers, government agencies, and community groups.
Strong analytical and communication skills.
Ability to develop and implement strategic plans.
Knowledge of workforce development and training programs.
Ability to manage a budget and prioritize multiple projects.
