- Help teacher prepare and adapt instructional materials and classroom displays
- Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom
- Help with inventory, care, and maintenance
- Help teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports
- Help with inventory and care of all equipment including technology, books, supplies, and classroom materials
- Participate in staff development, training programs, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned.
- Work with individual student or small groups to develop motor skills and conduct instructional exercises assigned by teacher.
- Help supervise assigned student throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.
- Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of the student
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Maintain reliable and regular attendance.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the teacher, principal, or other school personnel supervisor.
- Assist assigned student with disabilities according to their needs, including transferring to and from wheelchairs, lifting, or positioning.
- Assist student with physical needs and personal care, including feeding, bathroom needs, and personal hygiene.
- Help manage behavior of student. This includes intervening in crisis situations and restraining disruptive or dangerous student behavior as needed.
- Assume responsibility for learning and adapting student's special educational, medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs.
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- A two or four- year college degree preferred,
- 45 hours college credit from an accredited college,
- passing score on the Praxis Exam, or Work Keys test
- A good knowledge of and understanding of child growth and development; or any equivalent combination of training and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Pass Oklahoma State Department of Education Criminal Background check
- Must be able to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time.
- Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, push, or pull heavy objects or materials.
- Occasionally requires physical exertion to restrain a student based on the CPI model (SPED)
- Occasional stooping, bending, and reaching
