- Experience leading an organization's public affairs program, including crisis management, strategic planning, social media, and networking.
- Experience moderating large groups of diverse audiences, ensuring structure, participation, and clear understanding of the information presented.
- Experience working closely with the media, including being interviewed in person by television, radio, social media, and print reporters.
- Experience managing communication projects that involve writing speeches and creating reports and presentations on behalf of an agency's director/leadership to present to legislators, the Governor's Office, and other officials.
- Clear understanding of the need for collaboration with other agency's Public Affairs Directors, their leadership, and other stakeholders in order to meet a common goal.

The Oregon State Fire Marshal (OSFM) in Salem, Oregon is hiring one (1) full-time, permanent Public Affairs Director (Public Affairs Specialist 3) position.
As the Public Affairs Director, you will be responsible for the leadership and overall direction of OSFM statewide communications, strategic communication planning, and media relations. You will create communication plans; oversee execution; develop explanatory materials; research and write speeches, testimony, and presentations; and serve as spokesperson for OSFM. As a member of the leadership team, you will recommend action and provide direction on significant policy matters to establish an agency position, create precedents, and provide guidance on issues.

This position is management service and is not represented by a union.
Minimum Qualifications (these must be described in your resume for full consideration):
A Bachelor's Degree in Business or Public Administration, Public Relations, Marketing, the Behavioral or Social Sciences or related degree, and five years of professional level experience in Public Relations or Affairs;
OR
Eight years' experience directly related to the position under recruitment; five of the eight years must have been at the professional level.
