- Provides written assessments of youth in detention status to the court for the purpose of case planning recommendations.
- Schedules and coordinates detention visitations, including family, clergy, counseling visits, etc. Transports residents as needed.
- Develops and coordinates the presentation of daily educational groups for detention youth.
- Provides coordination for assigned Youth Specialist teams and assists with performance evaluations and other personnel related matters as needed.
- Evaluates crisis situations with youth, provides crisis counseling referrals when appropriate, and makes assessments regarding resident emotional health and suicidal ideation.
- Responsible for resident file documentation as required by licensing regulations.
- Serves as an advisor to the detention program regarding resident behavior, implementation of behavior modification system, and safety and security issues.
- Facilitates and/or participates in detention program staff meetings.
- Assists in organizing a training program for annual staff training and orientation training for newly hired staff.
- Coordinates and develops programming for the residents in the detention program.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree required or combination of education and experience commensurate with the requirements of this position
- Three to four years of work experience with at-risk youth and/or two years of direct supervisory experience. If candidate has Bachelor's Degree, then two years of experience with at risk youth and/or two years of direct supervisory experience
- Possession of a valid Michigan Driver's License and an acceptable driving record
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (including word processing, spreadsheets, and email)
- Oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills including communication with County employees and the general public in situations requiring tact and patience
- Teaching skills in group management and/or recreation are preferred
- Ability to collaborate with others and work effectively in a team environment
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines with frequent interruptions
- Ability to work effectively with individuals and groups from a variety of identities, cultures, backgrounds, and ideologies with a commitment to equity and inclusion
- Physical ability needed to occasionally lift, push, pull, or carry items weighting up to fifty pounds.
- Occasional exposure to infectious diseases, fumes, as well as the possibility of bodily injury during restraints or acting-out of youth.
- Extended workdays (beyond 8 hours/day or Saturday/Sunday) are occasionally required.
- On-call availability to handle work problems, attend meetings, handle emergencies/crisis situations, etc. at all hours is occasionally required.
- Occasional travel between County locations is required.
- Intermittent or cyclical work pressures are periodically experienced.
- Start through fourth years - 144 Hours (3.6 weeks based on 40-hour work week)

Job Summary
