    FIELD TECHNICIAN (TELECOMS/ DATA CENTRES)

    Location: Kansas City, Missouri.

    Duration: Full Time/ Permanent + On Call

    Salary: $60,000 - $75,000 per annum

    Mon – Fri (08:00 – 17:00) – 40 hours per week

    On Call - $10/day Monday to Friday and $25/day for Saturday, Sunday, and Official Public Holidays.

    Overtime - 1.5 x Hourly Rate: More than 40 hours worked in a workweek

    $500pcm car allowance and fuel 0.59 pm

    Joining the team, you'll be responsible for effective duties as set out below and will provide additional support to ensure engineering teams deliver on time, in budget and quality. The Field Technician will also work towards gaining technical engineering competence and adhere to Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality (SHEQ) standards.

    The post holder will be required to take on any additional duties which may be considered within the remit of the role.

    Main Responsibilities:

    Principal responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to:

    Ability to provide 24 x 7 support as part of a technical escalation rota

    Installation, Cabling, and Wiring Services

    Furnish ground equipment and associated framework, per applicable grounding standards, as requested by the customer.

    Furnish and run cables including Power cables to fuse panel and fuse position, Fibre/ ethernet cables to the bay, panel, and jack position and Console cables to data-communications network ("DCN") network router.

    Clean and inspect all fibres.

    Label equipment and cables with aisle, shelf, and unit designations

    Perform Smart Hands support on network and server hardware including:

    Connecting test sets or test router to equipment.

    Taking light levels.

    Providing planned maintenance or circuit migration support.

    Troubleshooting hardware problems on any device.

    Racking and de-racking of any device installed.

    Power cycling a router, server, switch, and soft booting a server.

    POP housekeeping Services

    Quality inspections on final work performed at each network site.

    Supervise other third-party subcontractors working at POPs. (Point of Presence)

    Additional Services such as cage or rack builds, copper, or multimode fibre instals, circuit migrations and audits etc.

    Additional Services may include but not limited to:

    Cage builds and equipment installation

    Rack builds, racking and stacking of equipment

    Cabling and labelling according to cabling diagrams

    Copper cabling installation and testing.

    Multimode fibre optic cable installation and testing.

    Single mode fibre optic cable installation and testing.

    Other Key Responsibilities:

    Establish and maintain excellent working relationships

    Comply with company & local standards, procedures & protocols with specific responsibility for performance to engineering key performance indicators.

    Ensure Health & Safety and Engineering Quality standards are always maintained.

    Customer-oriented professional, with good interpersonal skills

    Ability to take and follow written instructions / remote instructions

    Knowledge of router/switch (Cisco) commands

    ·Perform work with minimal support

    Experience with connecting equipment via console port, loop back connections

    Competency: Skills/Knowledge/Qualifications:

    Essential:

    Full US Driving Licence

    Cisco Certification

    Manual Handling

    Proven experience with Fibre Optic cabling and working in Data Centre as well as customer premises environments.

    Ability to troubleshoot faults using various test equipment such as LSPM.

    Knowledge of Cisco/Juniper CPE devices with experience in providing a remote console connection and troubleshooting.

    Experience is installing, labelling, testing, and cleaning Fibre optic cables

    Desirable:

    Juniper JNCP

    DWDM/Transmission vendor specific experience/accreditations (Ciena/Infinera/Huawei etc.)

    RF Awareness

    First Aid

    Experience and Qualification:

    Must be PC literate, especially Microsoft Office suite including Microsoft Excel.

    Demonstrate a flexible approach to the role, with the ability to adapt and react to business needs.

    Demonstrable "hands on" experience including I&C activity, test equipment, network build, etc

    Safety, Health & Environmental and Quality knowledge

    As a minimum an entry level understanding of OSP and ISP

    Services Description

    IP Backbone

    1. Visually inspecting devices to assess equipment status

    2. Rebooting routers, servers, storage devices or other equipment

    3. Providing loop-back cables to test circuits remotely

    4. Re-seating or replacing components or cables

    5. Removing Alternating Current ("AC") or Direct Current ("DC") power from equipment

    6. Cleaning equipment or connectors

    7. Connecting a Facebook-provided test set or test router to equipment

    8. Testing PDU power output using voltage meter

    9. Reset power at circuit breaker within cage/rack

    10. Swapping removable storage media

    11. Installing or replace modular equipment components

    12. Perform RMA/Reverse logistics on hardware components

    13. Fibre management (fibre cleaning, standards, cable dressing)

    14. Taking light levels

    15. Providing planned maintenance or circuit migration support

    16. Installing Small Form Factor Pluggable (each an "SFP") or Gigabit Interface Converters (each a "GBIC")

    17. Troubleshooting hardware problems on devices within rack/suite/cage

    18. Racking and de-racking of any device installed within cage/suite

    19. Labelling/inventory equipment plus digital picture and serial number recording

    20. Power cycling a router, server, switch, and soft booting a server

    21. Data Eradication process

    Working Environment:

    ·Reactive. Working in a constantly changing environment - although you'll need to be living within 90 minutes of Kansas City

    Location may change from permanent client locations to home-based and attending varying client sites.
