JOB OVERVIEW


The UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL) is an integral part of UNESCO's Education Sector and, according to its statutes, enjoys functional autonomy under the supervision of its Governing Board.

UIL works to promote an integrated vision of lifelong learning, with a focus on literacy, non-formal education, and adult learning and education.

Its mission is to foster lifelong learning through policy advice, capacity building, research, advocacy, and partnership building.


Under the authority of the UNESCO Director-General and the direct supervision of the Assistant Director-General for Education, the incumbent provides intellectual leadership and defines a strategic vision for the program and staff of UIL.

He/she proposes to the Governing Board of UIL, for approval, the Institute's operational plans and corresponding budgets.

The incumbent also ensures that UIL contributes to the full realization of UNESCO's education program objectives within the framework of the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Education) of the 2030 Agenda.
